I think the majority simply cannot comprehend these figures. Yet there is every possibility that we will get exactly those figures.

If true there will be no matches behind closed doors or otherwise. The country will be like the scene from a disaster movie and not much will be functioning.

There will be allsorts kicking off because half the doctors nurses police and fire will be infected or self quarantined. As incidentally will the army. So on top of everything else all the scum will have a free for all.

YesI think it helps to compartmentalise my thinking on Coronavirus. In one compartment is the trivial, the impact on sport. In the other compartment is the serious, the potential impact on my family. It’s best to not dwell in that compartment for too long

It took them a long time to get to that stage though. I work with a service partner in China and it was only around 4 weeks ago where they had to stop going in the office. Schools were closed mid Jan I believe until mid March at the earliest.

If it does escalate wildly then the China model will have to be followed as they almost have it under control.

You're right about people abiding by it though, wouldn't want some of the stuff I've seen going on over there going on here to make sure it happens though if I'm honest .

There you have it. We cannot do what china has done. Wash your hands and sing happy fucking birthday and that it..fuck me half of the population wont even do that. So you tell me how this is going to stop spreading and that we dont end up with something like the figures quoted.

Have a good think about the state of this country, take away a good chunk of the services with 21 million ill including the authorities. Its not going to be good is it. It will be open season for people to run amok and there are enough who would do it to make it a serious issue, especially if shortages come.

My estimate of 21 million people infected within the next couple of months is for total infections. The majority will have recovered based on information we have. The 20 odd million will not all be affected all at once. Hopefully the delay and mitigation phases of Boris plan will prevent the Zombie Apocalypse.

Last Saturday they had 1200 cases and 34 deaths.

They now have almost 6000 and close to 250 deaths.

It is clearly taking off big style there. We are probably 2 weeks behind them currently but there is no reason why it won’t be like this in 2 weeks here if we do nothing to slow it down.

Let’s see if the school closures in Italy slows it down a bit but on this rate of growth, there could easily be 30,000 infected in Italy by next weekend and 1200 deaths.

For me we need to act now to try to slow this down not wait until we have similar numbers.

I have private healthcare here through work but beacuse we have the NHS it is not really a big issue. It just means that if i was to go into a hospital overnight then i would get to go to a nicer one. The basics of healthcare are always there.

Nope, I pay it. Medical, dental, vision are all separate, plus about $250 of it goes into a tax free account to cover my out of pocket costs. I have a $2,000 family deductible, then $7.50 for a 3 month prescription of ongoing meds (not me) and a 10% co-pay.

When people lose their jobs, they have a thing called COBRA, which can help them keep their health insurance, but they pay for it.

The point of this is that we have high quality healthcare, at a cost, with employers sharing costs with employees. Mine USED TO BE FREE, but during the post 9/11 bankruptcy that changed dramatically.

thats the pure definition of "im alright jack". Going into an ER when you think you have it is possibly exposing an emergency room to it, its possibly exposing lots of people in a weakened state that may not be able to fight it.

Also, Yes, 80% are "mild" cases, but that is still 20% that are hospital level cases, which is going to very very quickly overwhelm medical systems.

And "an elevated kill rate over flu", Flu has a mortality rate of about 0.05%, this is currently hitting 3.5%, 70x higher.

This whole “self quarantine” for 2 weeks is a joke! No work, no money! Who pays for that with the XX% of the population that lives hand to mouth?!
