Cannot believe people want to one man up each other over something that could and is affecting us all.

For every post of updates and opinion there is 10 of arguing on who is the better expert.

Unexpected news today from a top German virologist who gave up his hope (after interpreting a new US study)
that spring and summer would help to win some more time for the medical system.

In contrast to winter flu Covid-19 seems to be less seasonal, Germany will directly run into an epidemic wave.

Bundesliga matches in certain regions probably will take place behind closed doors next weekend, further spreading.
I think the season thing is more down to regular flu and that those cases will reduce and open up spots in the ICU for the Covid increase.

Only 100,000 dead ffs give your head a shake
You seem to have a real issue with realists. Whether it’s because you’re shitting yourself or some other reason I don’t know. But Chippy is quoting real figures and real estimates as to how many may become infected and using optimistic fatality rates.

If you’ve got some facts and figures of your own that show how everything is a complete overreaction then post them.

As you haven’t, it’s patently obvious that you’re simply sticking your head in the sand and hoping that everyone singing happy birthday and washing their hands will sort everything out. And your snide references to dick heads and twats in every other post without having the balls to quote them says a lot about you.

Your getting better with a lot of underlying health issues am I right and very glad of it to may I add. The majority who die will be in the normal age group for seasonal flu
I'm not sure that it will stay in the normal flu deaths age group,we are a really unhealthy country, asthma in all ages is rife and they are all at a high risk given this virus attacks your lungs,i am trying not to look to far ahead and predict numbers and age groups

I don't think you understand the word "deadly".

It means how many people die, compared to survive. For flu it's about 0.1%. For COVID-19 it is at least 1%. The WHO say 3.4% but we hope it may not be so bad.

So none of my maths are wrong, inconsistent, misleading or backtracked.

You asked me how many I thought would die from this (in the UK) and I said 100,000. I still say 100,000.

I hope "only" 10m will get it and "only" 100,000 will die.

I am not going to explain it for a third time.

I simply asked you how many you thought would die. You clearly struggled to match you answer to your earlier statement that it was at least 10times more deadly. Your answer, or should I say answers just didn't back that up.

More from our man in Italy just out - which on the face of it is good news - is like to see more stats on demographics of people in this recovery phase, there seems to be patchy information out there on that. This guys a marathon runner I get knackered going up the stairs!

While coronavirus deaths increase day after day in Italy, good news has emerged from the hospital in Pavia where Mattia, the Italian patient 1, has been treated since 21 February, is breathing autonomously and has been discharged from intensive care.

A medical taskforce worked for weeks, day and night, to keep him alive. The man, 38, was the first Italian patient infected with the virus. To many, his recovery has inspired optimism that the battle against Covid-19 can be won.

According to the patient’s wife, Mattia had met an Italian friend, a manager in Castiglione D’Adda who had returned from Wuhan, China, on 21 January. After some research, the manager, suspected of being patient zero, was tracked down but, incredibly, he tested negative for coronavirus.

After analysis, the suspect seems not to have had any recent infections. Antibodies are a sort of register that collects, in molecular form, traces of infections that our immune system is called to cope with. The search for the origin of the epidemic in the country seems to be an impossible mission.

Washing my hands to the point I have now got dry skin but a couple of things today...

went to a cafe washed my hands had a sandwich , guy next to me reading his book , coughing and sneezing into a napkin and then putting it on his table. Finished my butty went washed my hands .

in post office got some dollars, the guy counting the money licked his finger a few times before counting out the money and passed them to me.

I just don’t see how this can be contained in every day life , you either need radical action or to do nothing .

Also Saturday out with friends , pubs and restaurant I was in all packed and people just getting on with it.

People don’t seem too bothered , if it is as big a risk as much as people fear on here, am not sure how you contain it without stopping everything.

How the fuck do you know the whole world is working on it
Because the CDC and WHO, which are working on a vaccines with about thirty other agencies have said that it will be 12-18 months at best.

You’d look a lot less silly and wouldn’t ask such asinine questions if you actually watched the news or did a bit of reading.

Yeah but who is the best expert?

Me too, I can recommend Aveeno

As for your second point, it cannot be contained in every day life. Our every day life needs to change but it won't so we just have to hope for the best

I think you will find he is actually proffering numbers that are simply not backed up by the statements he quotes. I can except that chippy and yourself are pessimistic many people are and there is nothing wrong with that. But you should not belittle others because they are more optimistic and not as prone to possible panic and scaremongering as yourselves.

Yes they did.
You’ve been making the mistake of comparing an unchecked outbreak of flu with an outbreak of Covid-19 in China where drastic action was taken that put a huge part of that country in lockdown. Italy is doing the same but not as well as it’s not an authoritarian state so the prevalence in Italy is 3 times higher than in China and climbing. That’s currently 150 per million compared to 50. If they keep it to less than a thousand in a million they’ll have done extremely well. Unchecked, over half the population would get it.
