Well I've been feeling off for the last 5 days, think it's some sort of flu and the last 48 hours have been the worst. Don't think for one moment I've got it (who knows could have been in contact with anyone) but it does make you worry about passing it on.

Luckily I'm off work this week, rang 111 this morning (8am) and i'm still waiting for a call back from a clinician. They're obviously really busy but I think it's a lot worse than the numbers are letting on.
Have you got a thermometer mate? I’d try and pick one up if I were you, a good indicator.

They told me at the hospital that several had tested positive but haven't been added to the official numbers for this area,i am suspicious of the official numbers, what we do know is politicians lie and cover up all sorts

I know absolutely loads of people who have been unwell for the last few weeks. I think tens of thousands have it in this country. Wont go to doctors and will recover. We have only tested 20 to 30k.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were drip-feeding the figures to try and give as much a sense of normality as possible

Just watching Czech TV and it came up with the headline that gatherings of more than 100 have been banned and all schools closed. I think they have less than 50 cases there.

I only post this as one of the unforeseen consequences of this virus as I had to have a very long chat with my mum yesterday about this whole situation as she is 85 with a host of cardiovascular health issues.

She was of the opinion that if it’s her time it’s her time, but what she hadn’t realized until I brought it up was the fact that I would not be allowed to be with her if she was hospitalized which she hadnt thought about at all, to be honest my interest in this virus has mainly been about my mum despite having two lads and being in the finance industry which will take a hit as I believe in scientific data and I feel like I’m on a personal war footing against this virus to stop it taking my mum out and am for the first time I can recall genuinely frightened I am going to fuck this mission up somehow.

breaks my heart to think of her being hospitalized alone with this :-\

UK man speaks of 'unbelievable' death of his father

BBC Radio's Asian Network

A man from Oldham has been talking about the "unbelievable" death of his father from coronavirus.

The 22-year-old man, speaking anonymously to BBC Asian Network, is one week into isolation at home with his mother and sister. They are unable to see the body of their father - "that's something that really hurts".

His father contracted coronavirus on a visit to Italy near Milan, where he had close links, but returned to the UK at the end of February without realising he had been infected.

He died in a Manchester hospital on Sunday after being diagnosed five days earlier. His wife has been given the all clear.

The victim was an Italian citizen, originally from Bangladesh, and was in his 60s with underlying health conditions.

His son said: "It [the virus] felt like it was something far away that will never affect me and that's how I felt for a long way, something away from me but when it strikes home, it's unbelievable. It leaves you speechless and you just ask yourself, how did this happen?

"It's really, really heartbreaking."

when you consider the American healthcare system being fully private, can you imagine the amount of people that just simply can’t afford to go to the doctors/hospital out of sheer fear of being made bankrupt.I read a case recently where somebody was presented with a five figure bill after having to stay at the hospital for six or seven days I think it was.. a perfect storm is brewing there and trump will be responsible for it

So... I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is nowt to do with him.

the poor healthcare system has been in place fir decades. the person that wanted to make healthcare free is the one they don't want voted in this primary election.

The Americans are the bunch of turkeys that think Christmas dinner is awesome every year.

They do it to themselves, so let them get on with it.

Facts are right.
If you don't have a fever you are not symptomatic.

WHO:
"The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don't feel unwell. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment. Around 1 out of every 6 people who gets COVID-19 becomes seriously ill and develops difficulty breathing. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness. People with fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention."

I take it you have been tested and confirmed?
I hope you're not suggesting that kaz has made this up just to stimulate conversation in order to bump her post count? :-0

That’s suspicious indeed. All part of the plan to keep business as usual and not introduce any strong mitigation plans.

There are many, many issues with the US response — if you can call it that — which unfortunately I will have to contend with as I currently live in America, but that is absolutely one of the bigger ones.

The current structure of the US healthcare system is especially problematic in the context of involuntary quarantine and testing, as there is no current law clarifying that a citizen is not responsible for the cost (both healthcare charges and loss of income). That means, unless Congress and the president act to pass legislation forcing insurance companies and/or the federal/state/municipal governments to cover costs related involuntary health actions, people will be put in the position of literally being sent bills of thousands of dollars for things they never requested whilst not receiving income to pay for those unsolicited services.

And, as you touched upon, the implications of the actions people will take to avoid that situation are equally troubling (again, it won’t slow down the spread of the virus).

They can't make the insurance companies do anything as that's the business they're allowed to run in a free market.

It would go against every principle of capitalism the US thrives on.

No idea, doubt it. This was last week too, so decision was made fairly early in.

I’m off to LinkedIn on Friday for a public event, as far as I’m aware that’s still on so at least they’re not overreacting. Kind of funny when you consider they’re probably acting in the way same manner as the majority of their users. Twitter - panic, make a rash decision. LinkedIn - calm, don’t rush.
Just heard that a couple of big shows at Excel and NEC have just cancelled which were meant to be held this month. Supposedly decisions taken by the organiser and not the venues.
