I compared Germany to France and Spain. You might expect some difference in the rate of critical cases, but 10x? Seems odd to me.
Oh i agree mate, definitely seems odd, maybe it's down to the way they decide what's critical or not.

As an aside, Kay Burley is totally embarrassing herself this morning at Downing St. shouting to everyone walking in to number 10 "have you been tested yesterday?" stop shouting you crank.

It’s too early to look at figures like that.

Germany has a similar sized elderly population to Italy but they probably live in different demographic clusters than in those rural Italian towns and villages where it’s rife.

But within another six weeks when the virus is more widespread across all kinds of areas, I bet the figures will mirror what the world’s largest elderly populations are in ratio to deaths:
Japan
Italy
Portugal
Germany
Finland
..are the top 5.

that’s a bloody good question mate! I’ve got quite a bit of family in the laundry region and they are starting to panic. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head haven’t gone there many times in the past is that the Italians are far more touchy-feely people than the Northern Europeans. It was always one thing I used to dread going there was the amount of people that you had to kiss, not much science behind that at all though...

surely they all understand the importance of regular washing?

Has it been noted here about the increased UK testing announcement? 1500/day was the limit, and it's to increase to 10000/day - so it sounded like on the news this morning.

Just had email telling me Cyprus marathon this Sunday has been cancelled by their government, ah well, 4 days on the piss it is then.....
You might want to extend your stay!!

I just checked the stats - there are only 2 cases reported in Cyprus - no deaths

I am due to go there after the RM game for a break

Seriously thinking about taking the wife and daughter out there for a couple of weeks to self-isolate - actually much easier to do that there than in the UK and less risk.

Might be just worth being somewhere 'safer' to just monitor how things develop in the UK over the next weeks which I think will be when the greatest risk will occur

I've been thinking the same mate. In-laws live in some remote areas of Europe. But just put logic before enjoyment, as hard as that is sometimes. If your Mrs or kids fall really ill, you'd rather them be in UK for treatment. Not just the cost, but the level of treatment is gonna be lightyears ahead of somewhere like Cyprus for this virus.

News Night, last night had an expert on screen from Berkley California, he headed the team who eradicated smallpox so I'd say his credentials are sound. He said to paraphrase " testing is our light shining into the darkness" and gave rates of testing for South Korea of 3500 per million and incredibly the US at just 5 per million! Unfortunately he didn't give numbers for the UK.

I posted it last night but the health auth. in Sweden is going out with a strong message that anyone with asthma should be taking their prevent medicine. Ask your doctor if that is what you should be doing as well.
It's good advice. It should just be a case of using it as prescribed but if using the emergency inhaler more than usual check with the doctor.

Also, make sure the meds are in date AND using it properly.
