Apparently Boris is insisting he doesn't need a test. I assumed he would have had one. Surely these tests take 1 minute of his time? Madness.

His voters will believe everything he says. They are fucking imbeciles who in normal circumstances I'd say deserve what they reap. In this case though, his gross stupidity will trickle down and probably affect the UK at some point so the best case scenario would be a bullet to his head before it's too late.
 
Genuine question, why do people think the UK is so far behind the likes of France, Germany and Spain in terms of positives? Obviously we're an island, but we're not limiting travel and our preventative measures are pretty lax compared to most.

Do we think its a lack of testing?

Yeah - it is a difficult choice - but for me it is important to try and secure and stay in a Covid free environment and avoidance is better than dependency on being lucky enough to have access to the overloaded NHS services if you do get it and are seriously affected.

I have started to look into things in more depth - including reading this thread these last 2 days - and am of this view

1. The place I would be in Cyprus is in a seasonal location - the area will have been very quiet since October and the villa is in a private location and the other 8 houses will be deserted at this time as they are owned by Russians and Brits so...
2. The chances are very strong that it is Covid free in the immediate area - which for me is the starting point - I just need to keep it that way - which can be done with a disciplined regime and will be easier there than here
3. I can take 6 suitcases full of stuff with me and start isolation immediately and I can exercise extreme care when needing to stock up

Most importantly.....

4. My reading of things are that it will be the next 4 weeks that will determine how things are going to be in the UK. If it does take off - it will be more likely the UK than Cyprus that will be in lock down - and then I will have been grateful to have gotten out earlier.

I would rather watch from a distance - selfish I know - but this is increasingly something where such sentiments are not relevant.

If my daughter's school were to move towards closure, I have decided today to go immediately - I might take her out anyway as Easter is on the horizon.

Agreed, thats why in all honesty I dont see how you can entirely seperate politics in this discussion. Governments all over the world are going to be held to account for the way they deal with this, the preparations they made, and certainly the health systems at the forefront.

We have half the critical care beds that Italy does, this a country called out for being one of Europes least stable politically and economically where we in gold old Great Britain of course have had it drip fed that we are better than the rest.

Time will tell of course but it looks like we are going to be found out royally at the cost of thousands of lives. Now ask yourself this...who is responsible for this state of affairs?

By FAR the biggest way to catch it is from droplets of mucus from people coughing and from touching surfaces that infected people with crap on their hands have recently touched, which you then get on your hands and then rub your nose or eyes etc.

If you have no-one infected in your home and you wash your hands as soon as you walk through the door, then you are not going to catch it whilst staying in.

well if i'm making sick allegations that officials in government are purposely killing the elderly, i would at least back it up with some form of proof and some names.

Agree with that - the NHS is marvellous 'in the round' but likely to be swamped - and the risk of infection in the UK seems to be on track towards 'hard to avoid' once stepping outside your base of isolation

Well mate if possible I am still hoping to be visiting in April/May if we are allowed out of here...and in to there. I actually think me and the other half will be safer out there than here at that time, and my two and a bit week tour may be stretched to June.

Continually let down by the Government year upon year, whichever way your bread is buttered politically, the general public have been let down over a series of decades.

I don't want to get involved in politics particularly, just wanted to give genuine advice to a poster still thinking of travelling overseas.
