Is that classed as lockdown? I always assume lockdown was no travel, not being allowed to leave home etc,.

The entire capacity of all 40 West End Theatres is 42,053, the average attendance for a weekend of PL games is over 400,000. That's not including the well over 5,000 stewards + 1000 police (and unknown numbers of volunteers, bar staff etc).

Annual attendance in the West End was 14 million in 2017, in the football league + PL it was 48 million.

Yeah, I really wonder why it's football that gets mentioned first...

but how many of those figure were repeat visitors?, Most fans go to a lot of games a season so those 48 millions were in all likelihood around 2-3 million actual people, I can't see a large number of people going to a west end show 20+ times a year and would be surprised if they had similar numbers of actual unique visitors.

Also of the 18m that went to theatre in 2018 (sorry I couldn't see 2017 figures) 15.5m were within the confines of the west end. They average 800 a show with an average 51 shows a day, so 42k daily in a small area socialising in the same bars and restaurants before hand siting in close proximity to each other for 2-3 hours indoors, several with crappy air con recirculating potentially infected air. Afterwards a large number use public transport to disperse through the country and internationally.
Compared to football in my opinion the west end is a nightmare scenario for uncontrolled spread of anything airborne and I'ld want to avoid it like the plague no pun intended.

Also may I ask about your 48m EFL and PL figure? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44238946 states a football league record of 18m in 2017, so 30m for the premier league divided by the 380 games is an average of 79k which is bloody impressive given the biggest ground is old toilet and doesn't hold that many.

It’s going to happen no matter what we do it seems. The point now is about managing and flattening the curve and I’m unsure how we do that unless we adopt some of the measures taken elsewhere in Europe and slow the spread of the infection.

And let’s be honest ‘herd immunity’ means the weak members of the herd take the ‘hit’, the old, sick and infirm.

It's basically what Merkel said about a final 60-70% infection rate,
while flattening the curve to manage help for vunerable cases.

Outdoor gatherings like sports festivals or schools could be responsible if every person involved would act responsible,
questions is, is that realistic?

Fans in Paris or Moenchengladbach in front of the stadium could be ok if they would stay at a 2m distane to each other
and use public transport in a very conscience way. Could it work?

How quick can we all learn and change our long routined daily behaviour??

Systems still need people to function. It’s more about limiting contact and slowing the spread so systems can still cope.

Two things needed: Massive testing & Social Distancing.

The first gives us accurate data, the second slows the spread of what’s already out there.

Other than that, it’s triage at hospitals and take care of the most infirm to the best of our collective abilities.

i still dont understand, maybe im dense. But wouldn't it be prudent to stop many tens of thousands of people congregating in one place with an infectious disease doing the rounds, no matter where we are on the curve?
