How do you know it’s made no difference ?
That's the thing, results are going to come aren't going to come fast and reliable analysis will only show up at the end of this. Just to make an example, our prime minister when announcing other lock downs yesterday said that we'd have to be patient and that the results would be visible in 2 weeks, not in a short time.
Unrelated, but he also concluded with "let's stay apart today to hug each other more warmly tomorrow" like the sweetie-pie that his speechwriter he is.
Makes you wonder if it’s airborne!
What an astute observation, I don't think that line of questioning has been touched upon yet.

I was thinking the same.
Somebody’s telling porkies!
Our government is refusing to test people. Pretty difficult to get a test unless you are over 60 or with underlying health problems. Most of us will get this but most of us will receive no confirmation that we have it either, thus not being part of the official data.

It's not airborne - however - once somebody gets it they are extremely infectious in the day or so before showing symptoms and after initial mild symptoms.

This is why I think not getting everyone to cover their nose and mouth with a neckercheif, tea towel, or surgical face mask when they're out and about is a really bad idea.
The government's scientific advice disagrees. So I'll accept that decision for now. Retrospective analysis will prove it one way or the other.

And the problem with that is people who have not significantly fallen ill with flu-like symptoms (actually, even if they have) are going to spend the next year living like Howard Hughes when they have actually had it already, are not infectious and could in reality happily resume their normal lives, helping return society back to normal.

People need a way to know whether they have had this or not.

Beyond washing hands, any other bright ideas on how we can help reduce our burden on the NHS;

Shutting the pubs friday night, certainly in town, would seem to make a massive amount of sense given the scope for transmission and the huge numbers of alcohol related admissions.

Generally, don't take risks with your safety? Avoid overdoing your workout? Drive that little bit more carefully? Put the rock-climbing off for a month or two?

Any more ideas?

Seriously having taken the night to digest that complete lack of any action from the government today I do beilieve that as a person who uses public transport, works in an education enviroment, deals with mamy people internally amd externally daily at work that I will more likely get Convid-19 at this rate and probably have a good chance of dying due to my bronchial condiiton.

I don't believe taking a psychiological and predictive science viewed response is the right approach and a massive gamble.

I will probably make a decission to bin off tomorrows game if it isn't cancelled just to be on the safe side as it seems the only way to protect yourself is if you do it off your own back rather than wait for any action from up top.

The Chief Medical Officee stated that if they introduce certain measures too early they won't have as much effect as if they are introduced at the right time so could actually be counter-productive.

Why isn't that an answer to your question?
What they were referring to with that comment in my opinion is an Italy-style lockdown. They feel, rightly or wrongly, that we would cease from obeying if the lockdown went on too long. So they are delaying that decision until the peak.

Cancelling Cheltenham, cancelling football... none of that is initiating a lockdown. You are still free to roam the country. I don’t see how you can apply those comments from the press conference to cancelling sporting events. They were talking about more serious measures than that and getting bored from being housebound.

You are right, but our testing capability will be limited for a while. It is going to be ramped up as per South Korea but it will take time and initially older people who fall ill have to be priority tested.

Mate, I can’t even imagine the anger you feel, given your condition. I risk losing both my nans to this, they’d be in a really bad way if they get it. It’s overwhelming, feeling like you are being let down with life on the line, but you are right we need to take matters into our own hands. If they are not going to force people to be socially distant at this moment, at least make that decision for ourselves. Keeping my fingers crossed for you mate, just keep making sensible decisions.
