Jim White gleefully on talksport:
Unbelievable, how has Cheltenham festival manage to avoid the virus?

I'll tell you how Jim because they haven't felt the repercussions of it all yet you fucking idiot.

When the true numbers come out I think we'll find out that Cheltenham was the cause of thousands of infected cases and ultimately hundreds of deaths.

"We need herd immunity", and yet China doesn't?

I am reminded of Feynman's words..."if it disagrees with experiment, it's wrong".

Fuck off giving it the little Englander shite.

It’s got fuck all to do with it and that’s twice now you’ve added immaturity to the discussion, if you’re not old enough to have a mature debate and instead want to act like a playground bully, I’ll just fuck you off on ignore.

I’m well aware of the other countries’ experts guiding their governments but their health services are different, they have different peaks of when their system is under stress, they have different social policies generally and it is possible they will revisiting this scenario again once their lockdown is over.

What is the point in having our government and these scientists guiding them if we’re just to ignore it and say they’re wrong, based on other nations that have a different system to us?

You got like this during both Brexit and the GE.

UK citizens have every right to be asking why the fuck are they now pretty much the only country that (until an hour or so ago) still has everything going on as normal. All his nonsense about different systems isn't gonna wash.

We can all argue until we're blue in the face but time will tell. In a matter of weeks we'll find out if Boris is a genius or summoned thousands to their premature deaths. Considering he's pretty much out on his own with this I'd say the odds are stacked against him.

yeah we should listen to Italy, it worked well there, or may be Germany and France, seems to working be great there.

or may be China weld everyone into their flat to stop the spread.

people going mental that public gatherings should be banned and games stopped, they stop them and still it’s wrong. People still posting on bluemoon that it’s a disgrace games are happening and posts the fixture lists after the games have actually been postponed.

the schools will be closing too in due course , I think Easter school holidays will be a couple of weeks longer this year

You do realise that other countries have experts right? And those are the ones that don’t seem to be coming to the same conclusions as ours? And that’s what the other 9 refers to.

Stop being so little englander. This a worldwide pandemic. It’s only healthy to take in ALL information and ask questions. Why aren’t you doing the same?

I would think the advice we are getting from the science is somewhat led/adjusted by our government.

It’s beyond odd when pretty much every other nation is reacting in the way they are.

Forgive me, but I’m of the thought that there is something we are not being told.

I think there is a real sensible approach being taken though which makes the government approach yesterday seem very silly. All major sports are shutting down off their own advice and thats the right thing to do. Grassroots football shutting down, my sons swimming competition and associated comps all cancelled this weekend, events being cancelled all over. I feel much happier knowing organisations are being pro active in their approach rather than waiting for a delayed government response on stopping events.

Genuine question, I know this quite a fast moving thread and a fast moving situation but thought I'd get some opinions:

I'm supposed to be playing football tonight at 7, would you bother? Also been offered tickets tonight for Stereophonics at the Arena, I'm not that arsed about them at all but I don't have much else on, would you bother?

My mates birthday tomorrow so we were planning a big day on the piss around the Burnley game, still going to go out for it but is it worth trying to stick in a particular area in town instead of walking round to loads of places?

Have you seen the press conference?

Genuine question because you’re asking questions as if you haven’t.
We know what their argument is, but are they right because China has obliterated the virus and done the exact opposite and they sit here today with almost no infections.

If China's infection returns then they will be right, but at the moment there is no sign. Is it inevitable? Surely with social distancing, vigilance and an army of testers, doing what China has done is the way for the whole world to go.

In my experience the two leading STEM nations are China and Korea yet we think we know better than they do? It's a difference in policy. The results suggest the Chinese are right. Even if there is a new infection I would back the Chinese to wipe it out in double fast time. I'd much rather be in Wuhan or Beijing now than manchester with a Government which says they want 70% of us to get ill. I know their argument but it does not make it right.

Thatcher said There is no Alternative. There is in this case.

Which to you right now seems right?

In the end it's a moot point because we will ascend the curve anyway and end up doing the same things but it would be easier to have done it from a base of 1000 infections than 20,000.

The only exact figures we have. That is the cruise ship. 696 passengers contracted it and 7 died, which is pretty much 1%. I'm taking an educated guess that a cruise ship, during term time, is predominantly going to be filled with older people and therefore more susceptible. If only 1% of those died, the likely figure across a whole age range would be lower.
So we just ignore Italy then?

I voted remain and for the Lib Dems.

What the fuck are you on about you total idiot?

China welded people’s front doors shut - we’ve got no chance of following their draconian measures.

We don't have exact data for Italy though. We don't know how many people have had it without symptoms, how many have/have had it without being tested etc.

We do have exact data for the cruise ship. Though I admit it is a limited sample size.

I think the government dripping the disruption in seems good to me so far. However I think our policy on letting people in from affected areas is and was wrong.

from Easter I think it will be schools shut and work from home if you can and avoid close contact with people . He did warn In his press conference that it won’t be self isolation in a few weeks it will be household isolation if someone in the family has symptoms

our response to Italy where people could walk in untested was stupid, equally allowing the Madrid fans to anfield last week was again stupid.

Sadly in my 12 week ultrasound my baby showed signs of very severe problems including cystic hygroma, gut herniation and fluid in the chest cavity and abdomen. I had a CVS test done and sadly initial result came back positive for Edwards syndrome. I’m extremely sad and upset that it’s over. I have to have the surgical option because my heart can’t take the thought of passing naturally and being in labour for hours. I have a high risk of infection after too

it’s shitty but I guess that’s life
So very sorry to hear that Bob, that is so very sad.

We do. People will do what is required to stay alive, and if they don't there's martial law.

Explain it to people, and they will understand especially when they know that in 1 mnth it will be sorted. The longer it's left the hrder and longer it will take to eradicate.

I believe from reading the Italian papers about Lombardy that those stricken Italian towns are now virus-free. it's doable. I'd rather stay indoors for a month than get it and risk dying. The government wants us to get infected but in a controlled manner. They said it. get your head around that.

We'd be better off infecting the young and healthy in a controlled manner if that' their plan.

The little one goes to a language class on Friday's at Antz In Your Pantz in Timperley. That is closed for a deep clean. No explanation given i.e has someone been there who has it

Well let’s hope we are prepared then.
Indeed. To go back to the WHO woman who said 1-2% yesterday. She said 1-2% but that depends on managing the situation, and slowing the peak so that health care systems aren't totally overwhelmed. She said if that is not done then that's where the problems start because nobody is able to get any medical care. I took from that that if not managed the mortality rate could be anything.
