Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Can you imagine Leeds United fans right now. They have struggled for years to get back to the PL and just when it is about to happen along comes COVID19.

Just one Club who will be fighting for all their worth to continue the season at some stage or at least be guaranteed promotion.

However there are far too many Clubs who will not want the current tables declared as final due to all the financial ramifications.

One great big bloody mess, thank you God for the Carabao Cup and Charity Shield.

Can you imagine liverpool, or Leicester, or heck even Us? we have the chance to win our first ever CL trophy, and back to back FA cups as well. Everyone loses out on something. Everyone loses out, it's a pandemic, if it contains the spread enough to save lives, then that is what everyone has to accept. Us, Liverpool, Leicester, Leeds, whoever!

Without doubt. They have been fantastic and are the champions. I'm just going to enjoy their discomfort over the next few weeks!

If the roles were reversed, i bet you many of us would accept it with far more ease than they will. The bulk of us would shrug it off as 'typical city'. And i dare guess many would see it for what it is, a global pandemic that scuppered a season of football, however promising.

Is this because the leagues themselves don't want to open themselves up to legal action, so they need to wait until the government order all sports events to be stopped?

If it happened to us this entre forum would blame it on the world's anti-City conspiracy. "It would never happen if it was Liverpool!!!!" would be the most typed phrase on the whole forum.

Can see season getting suspended till end of April and the Euros getting put back to 2021 so the current season can get extended to end of June and completed along with Champs league and that Thursday night pile os sh#@e

Looking at the teams left in the Champions League, I would say it is our best ever chance of winning it, we are also clear faves for winning the FA Cup..............I don't care, cancel it all and lets just hope and pray that we are all here to see next season.

The only fair way is to declare the entire season "null and void"

You can not award Liverpool the title because they mathematically have not won it.

If you did this.

Then how do you decide who finishes in the top 4 ?

How do you decide who is to be relegated ?

How do you decide who is to be promoted ?

How do you decide Champions League winner ?

The only realistic, logical, way is to declare the entire football Season "Null and void ".

No other fair way of doing it.

You can not award Liverpool the Title without opening a can of worms and potential law suites from teams missing out on Top 4,promotion,relegation etc.

No more fannying about here, this virus is only going to get worse and worse so the whole season should now be scrapped. They are just so desperate to get Liverpool over the line, it's as clear as day.

I can go along with that. Feel sorry for the bunch of Bus Wrecking Twats - not.

Yep, I'm sure the scousers will take the hit with typical stoicism, mindful of all those English teams who took it on the chin for that faulty brickwork at Heysel.

There have been no discussions over whether the Premier League season needs to finish or whether it is better to limit impact on future campaigns. At the moment, the only discussions are around rescheduling matches

That may be PR or more likely shows the level of stupidity at large in the upper echelons of football administration. There will be no more football for many months and maybe not again this year. In situations like this it’s best to grasp the full extent of the facts and plan appropriately- ie look at a new football season in early 2021 but the PL won’t want to accept the full facts and will present false dawn after false dawn.

Nowt personal but there will be no more meaningful football til 2021. In a month there will be 25000 infected. 2 months 100,000. I am starting to think we may lose most of next season

As city and Liverpool are the top 2, its only fair that we have a one-off game at a neutral venue to decide who wins the league.
