Makes you wonder why we bothered with a vaccine for measles when good old ‘herd immunity’ would have done.

How did we get on with Small-Pox prior to a vaccine? Maybe it was just the old and ‘economically inactive’ that died?? Or maybe not, that’s why it took 100s of years and a vaccine to get rid of it??

The point was not "when a worldwide crisis hits, people with children shouldn't moan"

The point was, when deciding to have children, IN MY OPINION, you should have the discussion - "what if one of us is ill, what if the child is ill, can we afford to be off work to care for it/ourselves, without massive detriment to everyone's lives and without putting upon our nearest and dearest?"

If the answer is no, don't have kids. It's that simple.

It is not, repeat not, a slight on people forced into time off due to covid. As the original post said, but no one read it.

According to a poster earlier, we were in the top 6 of countries testing. Not sure where that data came from though.

However I’ve heard from someone that works there that at least one local hospital is full of CV patients, far in excess of the Manchester figure. Are you suggesting that the 798 figure will explode over the next couple of days or will just carry on the same trajectory? If the rest of the country is similar to here there must be thousands in hospital and for some reason it’s being underreported. I don’t subscribe to conspiracy bullshit but there’s something that doesn’t appear to add up.

The UK currently have something like 10-15 thousand cases and about 10 deaths. current rate something like 0.1%. During this phase at this rate 60% of the population get it and 59.9% recover and are immune. So when the rate goes up the viable population is down to 40% and therefore the ratio of beds to patients is up and the end death rate is much lower.

That is the current plan. People self isolate so the contagion rate is lowered and the medical services are not overwhelmed so that when the spike comes it is later less steep and peaks much lower.

I very much doubt this is how it will work out.

It can take around 3 weeks for fatalities to occur which potentially makes a nonsense of your numbers. Your 10k-15k currently infected is a decent guess but the figure could be way out plus or minus, probably plus. Expect the fatalities to ramp up exponentially.

Oh and many people can carry the virus with little or no symptoms. They will not self isolate.

Said this early this morning, we are using a method that with smallpox took more than a century to get right and produce a vacine, same with measles.

19th century methods for a very modern virus situation

Yeah it will explode. They are testing the hospital admissions from this moment forward, which is not what they were doing previously. Previously most tests were if the person had been to an affected area, or they were high risk. Hospital admissions will sky rocket, so the confirmed, tested positive figure will too.

Hospital admissions already have. We’ll see if the figures do too over the next day or two.

Are there actually 20 confirmed cases in the PL though? I know there is Arteta and the lad at Chelsea. I thought the others were players with symptoms and not yet tested.

To be fair, they are not saying only 700 have it though. That’s how many have tested positive out of the 30k+ tests we’ve done. They have already acknowledged it’s in the tens of thousands that have it.

They are underplaying it to try and get some people to still go about every day life and get it. They want a number to get it and start using the beds now. They are just trying to control the pace 60 percent of the population get it.

When I thought I had it last week I worked hard to get a test and only got one as I had come in contact with Karen. Loads and loads who have been unwell or indeed not showing many symptoms for weeks can’t get tested.

that is really weird,they can't add you to the numbers if you haven't even seen anyone,i tested positive a couple of weeks ago,it's been a nightmare but i am feeling like the worst is over,mind you i said that yesterday and then got no sleep for coughing,it is a marathon not a sprint that is for sure,if you need help then 111 will have to help you even if you end up in hospital,keep your inhalers going on time and get your fluids and analgesia in,hope you feel better soon
