To be fair, they are not saying only 700 have it though. That’s how many have tested positive out of the 30k+ tests we’ve done. They have already acknowledged it’s in the tens of thousands that have it.
Yeh but my point is, they are deliberately publicising the lower figure so people carry on as normal.

I tell you what, if we carry on with this strategy, in 2 weeks we’ll be Italy.

Makes you wonder why we bothered with a vaccine for measles when good old ‘herd immunity’ would have done.

How did we get on with Small-Pox prior to a vaccine? Maybe it was just the old and ‘economically inactive’ that died?? Or maybe not, that’s why it took 100s of years and a vaccine to get rid of it??
we had small pox and measles parties so all the kids got it at the same time, looking back our parents had us dicing with death !

They are underplaying it to try and get some people to still go about every day life and get it. They want a number to get it and start using the beds now. They are just trying to control the pace 60 percent of the population get it.

When I thought I had it last week I worked hard to get a test and only got one as I had come in contact with Karen. Loads and loads who have been unwell or indeed not showing many symptoms for weeks can’t get tested.
Are you saying that the official figure is a lie then?

As testing increases official numbers will skyrocket which will panic many. It seems a great many still have the "i'm alright jack" mentality (not on here i should note) so hopefully that brings the issue into focus for them. The bad side effect of that is more panic buying and social unrest.

Just thinking about other side effects, we are social creatures and need interaction in general, i just hope suicide rates do not spike as some are left to stew alone at home. For myself i am perfectly fine on my own but i am aware a great many will start getting nervy or depressed and the need for interaction with others becoming greater as time passes.

Changes VPN settings to italy ;-)

I doubt the land of bunga bunga parties will feel too ashamed of the offer

Except we have
Made me smile - not sure how I,d feel in Italy's position

Yet again I'm not talking about testing I'm talking about action that will save lives

I have seen people urging a sort of blanket testing of the population which shows a total ignorance for how it would work and potential effects of it even if it could be done. If you haven't got it the result will be negative - because you haven't got it......yet. However bouyed by the medical invincibility many would revert to old ways and catch it as a result. Testing should only really be used on those who the medics just want to be assured their diagnosis is correct.

Followed this thread loosely but paid particular interest to yourself and Karens situation. Has your test proved negative? Or are you still waiting for your results ?

Been ill for three weeks, had antibiotics sent to me without seeing a doctor, I’m 51 asthmatic diabetes and high blood pressure, feel like death so been calling and finally received a return call from 111, apparently I’m officially a statistic as a covid carrier and as such I will receive a medical certificate advising against overseas travel and can ge used for insurance purposes, I’m not to attend hospital or doctors unless I am in dire straits as been very unwell is the norm? Feel like I’m in a parallel universe.
All the best mate.

We did have herd immunity for measles and small pox prior to vaccination.

Small pox without herd immunity is what wiped out the aztecs and the Europeans accidentally exposed to it. 25-30% death rate.

When we gave the Inuit measles, 99% of them got infected and 2-3% died.

It's not soft-science, herd immunity is a very real thing that's been known to be true for decades. The question we are facing with coronavirus is if we can get enough fit healthy people to develop immunity from getting COVID without complications to protect the old and infirm.

Some very interesting stats in those numbers. The death rate from resolved cases is 7% but that’s from people who have been through the testing system. I’m assuming many thousands won’t have been as seems to be the case in the UK.

Its clearly risky for those aged 70 plus and in particular those 80 plus with underlying health issues.

My 9 year old daughter, who suffers from anxiety, thinks her grandparents are all going to die and that is a challenging discussion. It’s hard to say everything will be ok when i can’t be sure.

The concern I’ve got is the moment that testing is stopped (as it already has been for most), then that prevents any decent analysis from that point on. Considering we’re going with the ”always follow the science” approach, I find it counter intuitive to say the least to then deliberately stop trying to find out what the science is actually saying. We’ll have no real idea on the figures or what future demand will look like or whether any of these measures are flattening the curve or not.

Yes it frees up testing kits and resource but surely if we are going down the let it play out route, we need the data more than anyone and more funding should be placed at that initial stage rather than less.

I am increasingly cynical about our approach to this, the biggest value add to me of not testing is that they don’t have to then publicise what the reality is.

I’m sure the ‘herd’ theory is real. But it’s still scary how many will cop for it in a short period of time. It worked with the Aztechs and we eventually got a vaccine, won’t be much comfort, I suspect

it can't be that great when we are the only ones doing it
