My wife has a cold, but also has asthma so is going to have to ring up and ask about getting antibiotics to stop her getting a chest infection, what are the odds on me being quarantined by the end of the weekend?

You maybe need to self isolate mate Just to be sure ,haven’t they said anyone showing signs should just self isolate as a precaution ( your wife) as you live with her obviously you may have too as well,do you have any kids ..

Why does it always seem like it's this country that stumbles through everything. Always caught out, never ready. Always has to go against the grain.

No matter who is in charge they just bumble through from problem to problem.

Letting in people freely from Italy, Korea etc without testing and or quarantine was madness

Letting 60% of people get the disease to meet some medical professors wet dream of an idea is madness.

Now it seems like Boris is going to roll back and inact policies that should have been done in the first place.

Social distancing needs to be done also.

They only had 800 before, so that's pretty much a doubling in one day. Are they doing more testing?

I don't know. It's disputed figure though, it's on the live corona updates video on youtube, but I couldn't find a confirmation on other sources.

Well it certainly doesn't hurt us. It's a nice gesture I'd say, even if they did it mainly for publicity. Many other digital companies are offering free services to companies, students and general population in Italy, some (not PornHub ofc) through a deal with our government.

I’m not for one minute saying it’s the right decision, but one of the theories I’ve heard about keeping the schools open is that if they all shut down many parents would have to take leave from work, and a fair chunk of those parents will work for the NHS which would mean less hospital staff to treat those with coronavirus.

Echo the views of a poster worrying about certain people isolated even further by this.
My current mood hasn't been ace for a few weeks and I tend to get energy from being around other people. Not only that but the sheer negativity around this isn't great for ones well being. It's gone a bit dark. I'm actually as fit and healthy I've been for years so my immune system should be top notch. However, my sleep has been absolutely awful of late and that runs your immune system down.

I had that horrible flu over xmas, but unlike anything I've had for many years (the kids had it too - it was constant coughing for nearly two weeks). Squashed Christmas to bits.
Though this virus had only hit our shores very recently but you never quite know.

I'm in Andalucia and was worried that unlike northern Spain schools were still open.

Andalucia has a population of around 8 million, so bigger than many countries,no fatalities but the government in Seville closed all schools as of today. The streets outside are incredibly quiet compared to a normal Friday evening.
Can't understand why the UK is not acting in a similar fashion.

She's had it for over a week and not had a fever at any point, she's pretty much on the mend tbh but her lungs get shitty every time she gets a cold. I guess I'll find out tomorrow when she rings them, but it'll be annoying if we get told to isolate as it's blatantly not the virus.

But it's not a U-turn. It's exactly the staged introduction that was spelled out in the briefing. After that there will be isolation of the elderly and then more severe social distancing. It's exactly the plan outlined and it's a reflection of the estimate of true number of infections.

It is a u turn,they specificaly said the measures at the right time not now,the players in sports are getting it so he has no choice but to do a turn now,after that isolate the elderly,he doesn't want to do it now

Surely he must feel whatever he is doing is for the best. Does anyone really know what the best thing to do is? Is there evidence that shutdown is working in other countries, or is it too early to tell?

I'm no big fan of Boris, just trying to understand.
