COVID-19 — Coronavirus

It might be because when they take the swabs they don't do it properly. It looks on to cells in the respiratory tract and then starts replicating so swabs should get it.

It's not that at all. It's because the infection starts in the lower respiratory tract but currently testing takes place in the upper tract. Therefore, it's perfectly possible to have the virus in your lungs but for it to not show up in a test from swabs from your throat.

Quick tests are being manufactured aren't they for antibody detection - similar packs to hiv ones; result in 20 minutes, logistically difficulty with the current swab testing

Antibodies take some time to build up so there's still the possibility of having the virus in the lower respiratory tract and it not being detected by testing.

Hi K7 and good to hear you have come out the other side. Does that mean you can go out and about and not care any more? Are you now immune?
I don't know really,i have seen on the news that they don't know if it is total immunity or just temporary immunity,i have gone back into my bubble and am staying put for now,i don't go out much anyway so staying home is normal for me,until they discover what type of immunity it is i am going to go the safe route

Fantastic, thanks.

From the Vox link...

I'm off the fence of criticising the govt's stance.

Fucking lock down. Now.
The overall information in the Vox article is fairly accurate, but I would only review the bit you have linked (which was just a small element of the article) with understanding that it attempts to convey some of the general epidemic modelling behind many of the strategies being employed.

Tomas Pueyo is not a health expert — he’s a developer with a background in stats posting on what is essentially a personal blog site). Most of the information he references is sound from a general infection modelling and statistics point of you (based on expert critique), but it is still just demonstrative rather than prescriptive.

The Washington Post and NYT articles provide references to additional information from health experts, including experienced epidemiologists. I included the Vox article because it is a decent general overview that could help many better understand what is informing responses across the world.

Yes that is important, the lungs are being clogged up and filling the air sacs giving you viral pneumonia, that is why we need ventilators, antibiotics won't clear it unless you get secondary bacterial infection, that is NOT happening to the vast majority so don't dwell on that

Boris looks shell shocked

Everyone to stop having contact with others,do not travel or go to events

If you need 111 do it online

Everyone over 70 and vulnerable need to self isolate for 12 weeks

London a few weeks ahead of anywhere else spread wise

Yes it's hard to say as these dates also coincide with the flu season. It does make you think though. I was in Tenerife over Christmas and returned the 11th January. I started feeling Ill just before I left then I was absolutely wiped out when I got home. High fever cough and absolutely no energy. I slept for almost four days, just drinking liquid and going to the toilet in between but no food. The apartment I rented was owned by an Italian too. Nobody knows of course, still can't completely shake the cough off though.
For a good while, around China and other parts of the world, they would definitely have attributed the symptoms to the ill as flu and the cause of death for the dead as pneumonia/respiratory failure. This goes back further in the Winter, for sure.

and you are the most contageous before you get symptoms
Not sure I’ve read that anywhere. The virus sheds in droplets from coughing and sneezing. I’ve read that one may be contagious whilst asymptomatic but not most contagious in that phase.

Yes good point forgot about the detection period for the antibodies, thought I'd read somewhere that they had data on this period but probably a paper I'd read on sars2003.

No visit to pubs, clubs and theatres or confined places.
Self isolation now 14 days.
From next week those with serious health issues 12 week isolation
Mass gathering are done for from tomorrow.

No mention of schools though, though are they not both confined areas and mass gatherings ?

Sounds like a ‘lockdown’ of sorts then for the elderly, pregnant and people with underlying health issues.

That's an extremely serious message delivered pretty weakly, surely? Not telling people what to do, just asking?

From tomorrow, no emergency workers at mass gatherings. Does this make holding them illegal?

Entering a fast growth phase ,going to spread rapidly now

Isolate for 14 days if ill

Measures to delay the spread

I cannot remember a time when we had our leaders on tv,ashen faced and giving this serious news

Schools not closing yet
