Unfortunately, undiagnosed leukaemia increased the impact of COVID-19 and contributed to his death.

It is a very good reminder, though, that many young people may have a higher risk of severe impact than they think, especially given younger people are less likely to avail themselves of regular preventive medical care and so may be unaware of underlying conditions that put them in a higher risk cohort.

But can leukemia go undiagnosed? Sorry but i don't have a lot of information about this. Shouldn't the boy have felt something more serious symptom-wise than just coronavirus/

Think that's a well-written article which explains the reasoning behind the UK strategy and also some criticisms.

Think the main difference between the UK and other countries is whether to try to contain the epidemic as much as possible now or to deal with it in a way that helps to control the expected second wave next winter.

Notably, the infamous Spanish flu killed much more people during its second wave, so it is important to prepare ourselves for what is coming next winter. The counterargument is that we'd do better if we gain time to learn more about the virus and stop a potential catastrophe now. Then we will have several months to prepare better for the 2nd wave. We don't know how long immunity against the new CV will last. It's not clear that it will last more than several months, ie. it might be absent come the second wave.

Apparently the Spanish flu was a bit of an outlier due to the circumstances of the 2nd wave relating to the war. Normally the very sick are confined to houses and the ones with milder symptoms are out and about. In WWI the ones with milder symptoms were stuck in the trenches and the ones with worse symptoms were sent home, infecting everyone on the journey back.

Im really hoping slow burning leukaemia isnt a co morbidity for this one. My sister in law was diagnosed with it a few years ago.

there is slow burning versions that can go decades without being noticed... I so hope this wasn't the case here.
 
Kids playing outside have just gone in. It's as quiet as I can remember it.

I hope Boris looks happier, stronger tomorrow. ATM he looked like someone out of his comfort zone delivering bad news and telling people what to do. I hope he steps up, I believe he really could do a stellar job of talking to the British people. He's got to risk putting a few backs up to generate the sort of message that will raise social pressure to the point where anyone thinking of acting stupidly or selfishly realises they will get a mouthful from everyone.

The WHO say to test test test,how can we track it here if we are not testing?

Here testing in hospitals

GP are testing in the community

Looking to scale up testing every week

Current tests for having the virus,if you have symptoms and are at hospital,will be branching out into the community

Test coming in to test those who have had it and find out who recovers



No visitors to care homes

Of course — nearly any disease/condition can go undiagnosed, either because the symptoms have not manifested to a degree that the person is aware of it, it has been misdiagnosed or incorrectly ignored during medical diagnostics, or the person is unable or unwilling to seek medical assessment even though they are aware of abnormalities in their body.

Unfortunately, this is a topic for which I have recent firsthand experience.
 
People can get tested at the GP, I've not heard of that happening yet.


As for advising against visiting pubs, clubs and restaurants, why not just enforce a ban? You can't trust people to not go to these places.

I think people are being more cautious on socialising, plus a lot of events, like football, the chance to do so has been taken away. You will always get the " Man up!" brigade who would get pissed and hug and kiss everyone in some strange attempt to prove they aren't scared, until it hits them.

So based on what Whitty just said, my brother in law should 100% have received a test. I can confirm from my own family’s situation that they are not even following their own guidelines. “... We have testing for pneumonia cases and milder illnesses.” No you don’t.

The bulls head in urmston @Tim of the Oak knows very well was fucking heaving Saturday must have been 70 people outside as well as packed inside fucking morons
 
They will be finding out how many people who have had it but didn't have symptoms,say that is a game changer if they have that number

I don't understand that when they are not testing most people ??

Health service workers being tested

Not enforcing things,we are a mature country who understand what needs to be done

Just said you won't get it again,a very important thing that he just tagged onto testing,would like to hear that talked about more specifically

i think the cma mentioned a short while ago there was going to be more info on that particular sub category of illnesses
