It’s causing rows with family now. Mother in law says “it’s only advice, it’s not like we’re being forced to do anything. It’s just advice if you’re worried about it, but I’m not worried”. I am losing the will. I’ve told her to visit my son less than normal and it’s like I’ve shat on her cereal.

Have you thought of just shitting on her cereal? The message might sink in (if you see what I mean) better that way

I’ve got my Mother and Grandad who are people this could possibly have a huge effect on, it could easily kill them... but I’m still cracking jokes, sending jokes to mates, pissing myself at Liverpool and just getting on with things like normal.

If you take things too seriously you’re a boring ****! I cracked a joke in work on Friday and someone moaned at me “this is life and death, it’s not a time for jokes” but she couldn’t have been more wrong, this is the time for jokes!

People shouldn’t be so serious about it all. Two people die every second around the world. There are far worse things doing more damage to humans than COVID-19.

All we need to make sure we do is be more hygienic and socially distance. It’s not a time for mass seriousness and the end of humour!
Spot on PC.Well said mate.

what’s interesting is that so many people and organisations have individually decided that the government’s response is inadequate. Football, other sports, cinemas, schools, airlines etc together with thousands of companies and self employed individuals. All streets ahead of the government.
We had a union rep in at 830 this morning, reinforcing the guidance. I think that helped management realise they might be liable if they didn't act quickly.

Best having the arguments now. Tried telling my 80yo mum yesterday about the new measures and she's just worried if she can still go to Llandudno in 2 weeks time and that the flu jab will protect her a bit. Going to have to have a family meeting soon (via WhatsApp as she's on it but I'm not). My Dad's even worse (they don't live together), he's planning his fishing trips. All my aunties and uncles are in poor health too, this is going to be really hard the next few months.

Latest estimate is that 35-50,000 have the virus in the uk. Death percentages are meaningless without knowing how many have the virus. Doubling every four days

It's same iin all countries, none knows exactly how many cases it has and UK is doing lot of testing. It's definitely big mortality.

Trouble is testing only catches those who currently have it.
There is no test yet to find who has had it and recovered.

Thanks for clarification SB.

In Spain we have imposed our measures to control the virus spread quickly firing all police, army and fiscal ammo all at once at the same time as medical measures.
Is it really just a difference in ways to treat the virus spread that the UK is doing things differently or are the Government unable or unwilling to impose a stay at home order to all?
Not saying other countries are right just wondering why UK believes more in waiting to cure rather than obvious prevention measures.
Just curious.

It's difficult because the response is made by government for the country but the country is at very different stages depending on the region.

For example, London has 1000+ cases whereas Lancashire where I live has 8. By physical size Lancashire is probably bigger than London but the population size is a fraction of that. You could argue then that the risk in Lancashire even to the vulnerable is more or less zero.

I could easily go a week without coming into close contact with anyone except my girlfriend and a handful of work colleagues. I drive to work and my only risk is work, going shopping and going out to eat etc. If I worked from home then the risk of me getting it or spreading it is dependent on how many 0.000 decimal places you can fit on a page....

Chances are here in Lancashire there will be 100 cases within the next week or so whereas London will have 10,000 so the response needs to be different and proportionate.

I work outside, but next week I am booked on a course which will mean I am in a classroom with about 20 people for a whole week for 7 hrs aday... plus I have never met. My missus is a diabetic and in the 'at risk' group. I have told my line manager that I dont think it would be wise for me to attend, as government are saying dont socialise etc. Well to me being around 20 people is socialising and is not part of my normal work. I was hoping my boss would take us of the course but he isnt really interested in our health.
My mate has his own Health & Safety business, which also includes "classroom" tutorials. He has decided in advance not to risk his tutors and has now stopped this part of his business for the time being.

No WFH at my work. Apparently they don't have the infrastructure to support that many people working remotely.

They've extended the opening hours so people can avoid rush hour and that's about it. Seems like they aren't taking it seriously at all....

I've got a choice now where I can stay away but it'll be unpaid and I'll be in for a big fall out with my boss who is adamant its business as usual or do I risk it for the money. Not significant given what people are going through at the moment but I do feel like my company are handling it terribly and with no compassion.

Two primary/junior schools in my home town have shut down as a kiddie from each school as the symptoms but nothing positive yet.Great to see the Heads taking control, seriously.
My understanding is that they have to close down for the day and do a deep clean.
They shouldn’t be closing completely for one unconfirmed case.
Unfortunate that some heads are heroes and will never shut, and some will shut at the sign of a single cough.
My boss was on Breakfast News this morning discussing it.

on another forum someone is in a WhatsApp group with parents like you.
Sending their kids in to school with symptoms because they are far too busy and important to take responsibility for their own families and want to dump it on others.

We are in 14 days isolation.

My wife has woken up with headache and a fever. No real cough yet.

Son has a cough and runny nose.

I ok. Only been 2 hours and I see it it going to be a long 14 days.

Daughter on her way home from work.
Hope everything turns out OK for you and your family mayo.At least you can watch all the repeats on tv and Judge Judy. ;)

Your boss needs to understand this is not "business as usual." He/she sounds like a right git.

It's mad isn't it? My Daughters school are threatening parents with unauthorised absence if her children are kept off school. The govt should shut it all down now instead of pitting teachers and parents against each other.

Better safe than sorry and I suspect that the Heads have discussed it with their Board of Guvnors.
