Watching this and can’t help but feel our guys have been pressured to follow this line of thinking.

They are now all saying what we’ve been saying for weeks on here, it’s like not only are we 2 weeks behind Italy in cases and deaths but also our official knowledge is that far behind too.

Fucking disturbing.
Absolutely, been saying it for weeks but you get criticised for not trusting professionals that have decades of experience. I’m making better decisions than them from my living room. I don’t care what experience they have. They are delivering reactionary half-baked measures that will not slow this anywhere near enough. You would think it was just a normal day today. Millions are not listening to them, it’s staggering.

Sorry, I was referring to my experience of health workers avoiding testing and organisations managing the testing avoiding testing asymptomatic health workers to prevent them from being removed from the pool providing care to infected people based on limited staffing and resources.

But, to your point, I am in almost exclusive isolation as contracting the virus for me has a high risk of severe complications and death, unfortunately. I know there are many others on BM that are in similar positions.
Well I'm sure I have it Seb, so am self isolating, but am still producing food resources for the local community, I dont see why everyone can't do the same?

A vaccine won’t stop it if it’s still in you but dormant, will it?

A vaccine makes you produce cells called CD8+ T cells which are a type of white blood cell which becomes specialised in recognising and killing that specific virus, it's what makes them so effective. So if the coronavirus was dormant in you but you'd had the vaccine then as soon as it woke up, your body would kill it quickly, probably before you noticed.

The exception to this might be if for some reason you become immunocompromised. Some viruses, like the one that causes Chicken Pox, VZV, lies dormant near your spine and when your immune system is down, it reactivates and gives you Shingles.

Some big rumours circulating stating UK shutdown tonight or tomorrow night - anyone else heard this?

Apparantly leaked from the army

The sooner we are locked down the better.

I don’t believe the figures in China. No way only 3,000 + died

I think there might be a few more, but people seem to have no idea how brutal the shutdown was in China. 60+ days of not leaving your house or apartment unless you were basically going to die. Almost everyone live in big apartment complexes and they had armed guards stopping anyone going in or out.

Of course you are :-D

Exams are cancelled

Testing will be up to 25,000 a day, hospital patients, areas of outbreaks, vulnerable people, healthcare workers there will be ways coming online so people don't have to go to hospital to take tne test

Antibody tests is progressing fast, game changer to get those numbers to be able to see who has had it and are immune
And to properly assess rates/durations of acquired immunity, which is *incredibly* important to mitigation/suppression of the pandemic.

So schools are staying open for vulnerable kids, a great move which I agree with.
Also they will stay open for the kids of key workers. Boris will publish a list of what constitutes a key worker. He mentioned hospital staff and delivery drivers as examples.
When I taught we didn’t know what most parents did for a living.
Unless HMRC are going to provide a list of who doesn’t and who does qualify I know what’s coming.

Looks like I am home working from Monday with the schools closing, though we also do aprentiaships and work with prisons so may still do partial openings for staff.

Italy's death total will likely surpass that of China's tomorrow.
My heart goes out to medical staff around the world.
From a selfish point of view I hope all public sector workers who over the coming months are going to be tested to the limit particularly nurses get recognition with big pay rises after this, we’ve born the brunt of austerity and now this. If this shows us anything all those cuts have come home to roost. This is more than likely to happen again and we need to be more prepared next time, cancel hs2 and crap like that.

All schools to shut from Friday bud.

I'd wager at least 30 per cent of schools will remain open as a result of the very specific criteria the government have exempted.

My wife is a SEN teacher, looking after vulnerable kids, those on the spectrum and everything in between.

Basically teachers being told to sacrifice herself for the greater good, which I do understand.

My own view is the entire country should be on lockdown for the next fortnight at least, no exceptions barring essential workers.

As far as I can see, the only people making any type of sacrifice so far is our front line medical professionals.

It's not even started for the rest of us yet?

I am confused, mate, as I am not saying anything to contradict that sort of effort to contribute?

Or perhaps I am taking your posts too seriously?

My mindset is a bit serious today, so I will probably be a bit too earnest right now.

Ah just my part Seb, am still getting eggs, milking cows etc.

Schools will become places where children are parked whilst their parents (The ones in emergency services) get on with their valuable jobs. I suspect that many teachers will isolate too because they are after all human and have that survival instinct. Skeleton crews run by young people is how it will end up as more and more people get infected (IF the govts plan doesn't work).

FWIW I agree with your lockdown proposal bud.
