News from abroad 1
My daughter is a teacher at the international school in Hanoi. She and her pupils have not been into school since before Xmas. She holds her classes on line.
She tells me that there is a lot of fear in Vietnam centered on their border with China, but no breaches known. Most places like restaurants etc shut down. Travel in and out of the country down to minimum levels. She was supposed to return to UK in July, but that is doubtful now.

News from abroad 2
My friend who lives in Spain reports eveything shut down. Her partner owns a restaurant which is currently non operative by law. Police fine ppl on the spot for violations of strict rules. She says that they put the cash in their own pockets, as per usual.
Rules include one person only in a car. Lots of hiding on back seat!
No major travel in and out of Spain.

News from abroad 3
A friend travelled from Oman to Bahrain, expecting to spend 24 hrs there, so left his gear in Oman. Refused entry to Bahrain unless quarantined, he opted to return to Oman, but they would not let him on flight, but put him on plane to London. Now safely back in UK, gear still in Oman.

Good news from the BBC's Dr Chris Smith, a consultant virologist, is that the risk from contracting Covid19 from posted items is vanishingly small unless you relick the stamp from an infected prior licker.
I like him - he tells me what I want to hear.

Can you still buy stamps that need to be licked? I thought they were all like stickers these days

I can't get my head around this, if the virus can stay on surfaces for 5 days and considering how many people touch a parcel or a letter in a chain how can this be remotely true?

What qualifications and experience have you got to state that?

Why are you emailing the vice-chancellor of University of Manchester?

This is just so OTT.
The current lag between new cases and deaths is around 3 weeks. In those 3 weeks each infected person (many non symptomatic) will infect 2 to 3 other people.

Taking into account the number of ICU beds, just basic modelling will show that this is unsustainable.

Isolation and testing on a grand scale will have a huge positive effect, and save lives.

And there will be hundreds of thousands of these situations up and down the country, with most not revealing that someone in their family has symptoms. As much as those at the top are failing us, the general population is failing itself too. In two weeks when they’ll be hoping to see the spiralling figures start to slow as a result of these measures, they won’t understand why it’s still getting worse. Been saying for weeks our country is inhabited by too many morons for us to fight this virus effectively. There needs to be some aggression from Boris. Some extreme sanctions for anyone not complying. Because people will not make the right decisions themselves. They have to be faced with no alternative.

The stupidity of some people is astonishing. But get this - my sister got home from work on Sunday to find her husband was displaying symptoms associated with Covid-19, in particular a high temp and dry cough. She did the right thing and got him to self-isolate and was leaving food and stuff at his bedroom door. She was thinking that this would mean she would have to stay off work too, right? Anyway, the very next day his symptoms subsided - no high temp, etc, so she phoned work and asked what she should do. "Well if his symptoms have abated, then you can come into work for your night shift tonight" they said. I don't think she was particularly comfortable with this but that was the instruction from above. Her job? Psychiatric nurse for the NHS

It’s things like this that makes me think that we’ll never beat it without it naturally fucking off or a vaccine.

The symptoms/non-symptoms, instructions, selfish cunts, idiots etc. just means it’s impossible to contain in a country like ours.

Unless you’re a Far Eastern country that can enact authoritarian rules, you’re knackered.

So someone has just come into the office off the shop floor and gleefully asked me "So when are we going into lockdown?". I told him it could well happen by the weekend and he's under the impression that if it does then our works will have to close. Told him that it wouldn't - unless one of us contracts it of course - and people would still be able to go to work. He was smug as fuck and told me that wouldn't be the case, and only the emergency services would be allowed to work. Tried explaining that even though France is in lockdown, people are still allowed to go to work so why would it be any different here? (I'll add that we deal with some French companies and it seems there are restrictions on the numbers that are allowed in offices but they are still working). I just finished off by saying that I didn't realise he was that desperate for 2 weeks off work!
Isn’t the lockdown likely to be restricted to London initially?

Worrying that South Korea's case rate is increasing again. slowly admittedly but something to keep an eye on considering they locked down early.

The BBC are reporting that Asian countries are being reinfected by citizens coming home from other countries, if this is true then the human race are displaying a stupidity I would never have believed.

You don't have to be a Far Eastern country to enact authoritarian rules.
Any country can invoke emergency measures at a time of national crisis.
The problem is that people aren't used to following these rules and want to do as they want, almost wearing defying the rules as a badge of honour.
The government should introduce lockdowns and other emergency measures and have the army and police enforce these. The government has a stonking majority, as it happens, if it needs to get emergency powers through parliament even if the opposition didn't want to cooperate, which they probably would anyway under the circumstances.
It's the only way to fight this.

My boss has just bought 3 knapsack spayers so we can go around the town spraying it with antit bacterial spray !
First the work force will need to get their PA01 and PA02A, which is a weeks course , if any colleges or courses are still open. Than I am not sure how legal and safety it is to spray the product. If it doesnt say it can be sprayed from a knapsack sprayer we cant do it !

Looks like we're going to learn the hard way, just like Italy.

They advised her to put the hospital patients and staff at risk by doing the exact opposite of government policy? I think she should stay at home and make an official complaint.

Yeah I don’t doubt that they can get it through Parliament and announce it but I just can’t see everyone adhering to it.

We’ve got a huge amount of scrotes in this country who will see it as a badge of honour, as you say, to go out.

In China they’re terrified of their government and in South Korea, despite being a liberal democracy, they have a huge history of respect for elders and they respect their governments wishes.

Here, we’ll have scallies roaming about robbing.

Spain has extended its lockdown period to Easter Sunday ie an extra 15 days.
The reasoning is that Easter usually has so many travel movements that it is too much of a risk.

possibly.

I've done about 30 minutes of audio and come to the conclusion that I need to buy some new underwear! :-)

I once built a mini sound booth out of one of those fabric fold boxes from Ikea and some foam from a bed shop. Stuck the mic inside and hey presto - quick studio.
Part of the ‘fun’ is using your creativity in desperate measures.

Hope the sound is good
