Sorry OP this doesn’t answer your question, but was putting together a quiz earlier and looking up the 1977 league cup final between Villa and Everton and saw it took 3 full matches to decide the eventual winners, at 3 different venues. Fascinating stuff really, judging by the way thing have developed fixtures wise.
Everton beat us 2-1 on aggregate in the semi-final.
Over 50,000 in attendance at Burnden.
We played Fulham three times in an earlier round.
Bobby Moore was sent off at Burnden for the one and only time in his career.
1971 Alvechurch played Oxford United in the final qualifying round, before the first round proper. Five replays, four went to extra time. They played each other 6 times in 3 weeks, Alvechurch winning the sixth game on the Thursday before they played Aldershot in the first round two days later. The number of cup matches in a season factoring in the replays must have been immense.
11v11 is pretty good. Has all results, by season, by league and you can select any league table from any date in history. Which is nice.Does anybody know of a spreadsheet with historic English domestic football results. not just city, all teams? cheers
7 players in the those matches had played or would go on to play for City.Sorry OP this doesn’t answer your question, but was putting together a quiz earlier and looking up the 1977 league cup final between Villa and Everton and saw it took 3 full matches to decide the eventual winners, at 3 different venues.
