Saw this happening a week or so ago with all the Lisbonites and Seville well to do heading off to their second homes in the Algarve - idea being less chance of contracting virus in lower density populations and living areas. Showed scenes on the Spanish border coming into Algarve before lockdown there reminiscent of the movie convoy.

Norwegian prime minister has also ordered Norwegians to return to their primary homes after many vacated to their summer cabins to escape Oslo. I suspect the cotswolds and Lake District may have much higher normal occupancy levels for this time of the year.

I mentioned these patterns happening a week or so ago here in the Algarve. So come on who was on the M56 yesterday driving like a bat out of hell?

As a self employed joiner I look forward to navigating the benefits system to probably end up with the princely sum ov fuck all , as much as I wud love to lockdown now it wont be happening
yes you will enjoy this, i decided to go to universal credit and see if i could be toped up, after 20 minutes of ticking boxes the page error came up

Todays briefing mostly about getting food to shops, they have cut lots of red tape, supply is not a problem, there is plenty of food, supermarkets are putting restriction things but no rationing from the government, loo roll is made in this country so stop panic buying, manufactors are used to spikes in demand and are producing more goods, about 50% more, the gov has their eye on profiteering

In may time the fruits and veg in season will come throughI

Food is not going to run out,we might not be able to buy our usual stuff but there is plenty of other things to buy

Drs will make difficult decisions but they always have and they will be helped by the public doing what they are asked to lighten the load on the hospitals, everyone following the rules will save other peoples lives

Lose of taste and smell can happen

Just spotted this on twitter...

Wow.

I've not watched it but people like him need to stop spouting such shit. Firstly he is in a low risk age group and yes being fit and healthy might help a little, but the majority of the people it is killing it won't. Their age and health are the major factors. Also this mentality is fuelling the "Stop worrying you will be alright/it's just a bit of flu" mindset that encourages morons to party on and keep spreading regardless.

I wouldn't be so sure about the fruit and veg coming through. Where are all the EU pickers and packers? Plenty of work in the fields for redundant hotel workers (oh wait, they're from the EU too.)

I am serious by the way. Sheep farmers and their families are self isolating rather than risk going down with it with hundreds of ewes about to give birth. Growers not sure how to get stuff out of the ground.

Perhaps the second home owners gone to rural areas will volunteer in the fields.

Marvin.

You have credited this guy as "the scientist whose work lies behind the current suppression model and says he endorses the medium article.

That's not true.

You've posted a tweet from NIALL Ferguson and the scientist is NEIL Ferguson.

They guy you've linked is an American historian.

Quite a funny mix up, but an important distinction between the endorsement of an author and a genuine expert. The giveaway was that this guy says "it is vital that policymakers (in the US and UK especially) get this message" - something I'm sure the real Neil Ferguson would never say on account of a) He's in daily contact with them already and b) he's already published the actual research showing what the medium article is copying, but a week earlier.
yes I know. I realised myself later my mix up.

Noticed that the data on worldometers does not always match that quoted by other broadcasters e.g. Spain. They perhaps have different definitions of new cases

Yeah right.
SAGE gave their advice. Boris followed it with a strategy.
SAGE changed their advice so Boris changed the strategy.
Boris is being driven by SAGE.
Good news surely?
Probably not for you.

He did what he should have done. Follow the advice of our experts. It's no really up to him to dictate strategy but to implement it. If their advice changes, then he should implement those changes, which he did.

Party political nonsense shouldn't really come into it (though I'm sure you'll still try). Hopefully Corbyn would have done the same.
I completely disagree.

They should have been transparent with the data from the start, like other countries are. That way, they would have avoided the potentially disastrous mistake.

The WHO were alarmed by the initial strategy and quite publicly said so.

The British scientific community was alarmed by the strategy and 250 of them wrote an open letter demanding the data be made public because they thought they’d got it wrong.

4 days of silence from the government.

They sanctioned potentially 1million people to attend football matches, potentially putting themselves, others at the game and the wider public at risk.

Then when they were under pressure to publish the data they realised they got it wrong and hastily rushed out a PR campaign denying the original strategy was ever really a strategy at all.

They ignored the initial alarm from the WHO and wider scientific community because they arrogantly believed they’d cracked it and found a pioneering new strategy that was going to save the day.

All could have been avoided if they’d been transparent from the start and engaged with the experts who have been on the front line with the pandemic long before it exploded on these shores.

They’re doing their best and I happen to think they’ve done a good job since they realised their mistake. But let’s not try to rewrite history. They fucked up initially, but thankfully are now on the right track.

I got my hair cut earlier and the barber said I was his first customer of the day. They’re looking at closing next week as staying open isn’t worth their while.

My summer trips to the Netherlands and Italy are out of the window. Two countries I’ve fancied for years. If Germany are letting people in around June then I may go there instead. Long weekend in Berlin.

I live in Haarlem near the coast in Holland. Just taken the dog for his business, the roads are gridlockd with people queuing two miles to get to the beach, and I’ve never seen so many old people out for a stroll in my life. It’s madness

Good beach area though for chilling out, was like being on the Mediterranean coast last June (water still Baltic though :)
