Mrs is in bed aching and has a bad headache says it feels like her head is in a vice. Had to stay off work to look after the kids, she's not been outside for a week. Hoping it is something else will have to monitor her.

Just checked the intensive care specialist's numbers not because I thought he was wrong but because I like messing around in excel.

When you pass flu on, you on average infect 1.3 people. They then pass it on, at this point 1.69 people have been infected.
Now he said on average with covid 19 you infect 3 people. Now this doesn't look too bad. 3 vs 1.3 does it. But when those three pass it on you have 9 infected as opposed to 1.69. Significant.
Go through 10 stages and it's ridiculous.

Agreed but it's not as bad as infecting 3 people. The numbers of people 1 infected person passes it on to is called R0 and for COVID-19, it is estimated R0 is between 2.0 and 2.5. Of course it depends upon what social distancing is being done. You pack 1 infected person into a crowded tube train coughing their guts up and R0 is probably 10+ for that unfortunate group. Across the populations it's running at between 2.0 and 2.5. We need to get it down to less than 1.0 asap.

I’ve just posted on this in the BJ thread, the wider implications of these authoritarian measures will be worrying. It’s essentially proving how easy it would be for fascism or communism to take over in Europe again.

I know this is political and we have a thread for it but I’ve been banned (for being told to fuck off?) and I wanted to respond to this directly.

He said 3, but if it was I think we'd be seeing even worse scenarios than we are.

Even so at 2.0, that still translates to 1,000 after 10 steps.

And means there are probably thousands of people wandering about unaware they are infected.

It's a valid point but this is a global crisis. How many deaths do you accept before you take the most drastic of actions? We have a left of centre government in Spain that I don't believe has any long term ambitions of facism but in countries like Turkey and Hungary it could be an issue.

I think Spain needs to hold onto their hats for at least ten days and then we'll see how beneficial the current lockdown is.
