Maybe. But it is equally harsh to distill the reason for this down to our life long (as a species) habit of eating meat. Which i appreciate the original post wasn't explicitly doing, but did imply somewhat.
There are arguements as well, that if we had all been vegans over centuries, we would be far less equipped physically to deal with animal based diseases jumping species, as much as that risk may be reduced.

My apologies. He was introduced on the TV as Chair of the Health and Social Care Select Committee (which I gather he is). I was mistakenly imagining that was a ministerial role.

only for the pen pushers and office workers any one working with the pubic or doing manual work will carry on....at my place the office is closed, office workers working from home. Us we are still out and about with the public.

edit ... And don't forget how important bike shops are

I think my issue is applying a specific arguement (the markets that deal with what is essentially illegaly obtained and traded meat, of whatever type) as a broad brush generalisation on wider cultural and geolocational habits, which as i say, not for me, but also not for me to say they shouldn't exist or ever have existed.

Sorry if posted earlier not had chance to catch up on overnight posts, Piers Morgan, tosser that he usually is, is rapidly becoming the man of the people taking it upon himself to call out the companies claiming to be essential workplaces.

The replies from people/companies being made to go into work is appalling, the fact this is being advocated by the government is surely part of the herd experiment - what other explanation is there.

The fact India can lockdown 1.3 billion people, whilst we allow the likes of Next, Halfords etc to force people into work shows where government priorities lie.

God knows where we'll all be when we come out the other side of this, stay safe blues

Not sure about a full blown lockdown quite yet but think the rest of the UK will at least follow Scotlands stricter version with no construction and actually using the term lockdown in the next day or two.

That sentence makes me feel sad, mate. The thought that people would riot instead of trying to do their bit to halt a worldwide catastrophe tells you exactly where we are in terms of mankind's development. It makes me sad because you are entirely correct.

Surely this would have been and should be ongoing the way to stop the worldwide spread of a virus? It doesn’t seem to be rocket science. Are we missing something that makes this idea unworkable? Because it just seems the best way to do it.

Whichever city has a deadly virus, lock the city down immediately and close all the borders to that country... what are we missing?

Even when Italy was on lockdown, people were flying from Italy to Britain... fucking bananas!

Yes and just walking through immigration and asked if they had been to an infected area, then told to self isolate if they answered yes and that was it.
