They shared the genetic sequence of the virus with the world on the 10th January.

You think your government is better? The policy of many state epidemiologists in the West was and is (Sweden) to infect the herd.

Our politicians apparently abandoned that strategy when confronted with the reality of if it. Now we have a trade-off between economics output and lives.

The point is though that yet again they concealed the situation. People are saying well at least they didn't conceal it for as long as they did in 2002. They have used exactly the same strategy back then; concealment of outbreak, detaining/getting rid of whistle blowers and concealment of the true level of infections - They were heavily rebuked by the WHO back then stating that the cases of infection/mortality were at least 10 times higher - easy to google. They even had another outbreak of Sars

I accept that its a complex situation in China due to the trickle down of power and this situation was probably to do with the regional governor shitting his pants about telling central govt. but are we seriously suggesting central govet. did not have access to the true level of infections and mortalites in the provinces, are we suggesting they did not (yet again) embark on a PR exercise with systematic concealment and shutting down of information to it's own citizens and the world.

Are we to believe that the final death toll ended up being a fraction of Italy's and Spain/UK with their medical systems and with China being ground zero - I never knew they had could mobilise so many ventilators in China. I wonder what additional measures would have been implemented by the WHO and other nations if they had access to the true level of deaths which based on WHO calculations from 2002 is probably at least 25k plus - would world governments have ordered the immediate shutdown of flights to and from China?

How many of the Chinese workers in northern Italy travelled to China in late January for the Lunar New Year and returned to the fashion factories of Northern Italy — without symptoms but already infected with COVID-19 — in early February? Could have been avoided if transparency had been provided by the Chinese government.

might be behind a paywall but scientists at oxford are estimating that over half the population could have been infected.
I don’t understand how it could have been so widespread without being detected. I know she’s suggesting that the incidence of serious illness is much lower than is being assumed, but surely their would have been an earlier increase in serious illness and someone would have realised that something out of the ordinary was going on? It’s quite possible that many deaths and illnesses would have been put down to existing conditions. But all of them? Wouldn’t some doctors have spotted it?

Interesting article online from Building Magazine which also says it’s a big game of poker because nobody wants to be sued for failing to fulfil contracts. You might have thought some common sense and leniency might apply in the circumstances but apparently not.
So the client doesn't want to order work to stop and neither does the contractor. Or they both do but can't agree contractual terms for cessation. If either sued the other could they join the government to the suit as a third party to blame for the uncertainty?

I wonder if Iceland will be an interesting place to see how it develops. It currently has 648 cases, 2 deaths, 595 active, and 13 critical. With a small population 364,000 of(ish) and presumably nobody able to get on/off the island, I imagine they'll ultimately be able to test the entire population; its health service is well-funded and good. I know nothing about this, of course, but just interested to see if one small place might quickly reveal more data for us all.
They've randomly tested nearly everybody so I guess that means it's not random.

Spoken to my actual manager this morning and I fall under the vulnerable colleagues list so he's sent me home to isolate for two weeks and go from there. I'm still going to contact my GP and ask for his advice once the deadline for these letters has passed.

Thanks for your advice guys, I feel a little less worried now I'm not mixing with the general public for a while.
Mate, you should be in 12 week isolation with your medical history. That’s on government orders, so fuck what your boss says, do the right thing for your own health.

Yes, there will be, and then expect rioting in some areas.
Has there been any rioting elsewhere? It does seem quite difficult to start a riot in the current circumstances. How would the crowd congregate?

I can see individual or very small scale acts of looting and vandalism, but probably not enough to constitute a riot?

Sorry if posted earlier not had chance to catch up on overnight posts, Piers Morgan, tosser that he usually is, is rapidly becoming the man of the people taking it upon himself to call out the companies claiming to be essential workplaces.

The replies from people/companies being made to go into work is appalling, the fact this is being advocated by the government is surely part of the herd experiment - what other explanation is there.

The fact India can lockdown 1.3 billion people, whilst we allow the likes of Next, Halfords etc to force people into work shows where government priorities lie.

God knows where we'll all be when we come out the other side of this, stay safe blues

There are loads of companies still operating/working .. building sites open , landscaping , tree cutting etc

Lombardy is the main reason for the high number of deaths there, they tried to lockdown and thousands of people left before it was enforced. I don’t think we’ve had that situation here, probably why the Govt have stressed London won’t have a complete lockdown by itself.
Total lockdown does not by itself stop people moving from one area to another.
Andalucia has relatively little virus compared with Madrid but last saturday police stopped over 200 cars from Madrid at Andalucia border. Most going to second homes but travel not allowed throughout Spain.

It is a broader arguement, and more of a philosophical debate, and maybe this isn't the time and place for it. As i said, i can't agree. I can't see the logic, other than an inexplicable pre-judgement. The world is a big and varied place, indigenous cultures everywhere have completely different habits and lifestiles. The world is turning vegan, and soon you and i will be the odd ones out that 'the rest look at in disgust' for eating a burger. It is the exact same logic, followed through.

All that said, agree 100% that the relaxed attitude to the state of such markets should be clamped down on and regulated better. Without a doubt.

It’s all different levels though. The world has eaten meat and is moving towards veganism. If and it’s a big if, the vast majority are vegan then they will be condemning something that the vast vast majority of humans used to do. Never in human history have anywhere close to even a large minority of people eaten the stuff they do in some areas of China.

Even a lot of the Chinese are disgusted by it.

I really don’t care if they eat insects or frogs or whatever but let’s just stop eating stuff we know is a high risk of spreading disease hey? You know the bats, civets, snakes, pangolins etc. let’s have a risk chart.

I know pigs can but the way they are farmed here makes it incredibly unlikely to start an epidemic. Let’s have the same standards worldwide and ensure this doesn’t happen again.

Prince Charles has tested positive for coronavirus.

Clarence House said: "The Prince of Wales has tested positive for coronavirus.

"He has been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health and has been working from home throughout the last few days as usual.

"The Duchess of Cornwall has also been tested but does not have the virus. In accordance with government and medical advice, the Prince and the Duchess are now self-isolating at home in Scotland.

"The tests were carried out by the NHS in Aberdeenshire where they met the criteria required for testing.

"It is not possible to ascertain from whom the Prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks."
