What's everybody doing...????

R you sure it wasn’t a sparrow Hawk mate? They’re about that size and look the same other than size. Goshawks are big birds. Last years will be full grown by now.
yep double check on bird site plus got others to check for me would post a picture but don't know how to on here more than happy to be told he was something else

been doing abit of birdwatching ! and to my surprise the other day all the birds suddenly disappeared and a goshawk land on my little shed about a yard away from my window !

Had a peregrine falcon in my garden last year, caught a black bird, about 10 magpies tried to take its kill away but it wouldn't give it up and it stayed till it had finished feeding.

That photo is of a sparrow hawk. They look similar except for size. If you have seen a buzzard, thats the size of a Goshawk. I hope it was a Goshawk mate because they are pretty rare as are sightings in gardens. Anyway, whatever it was, Its good you enjoyed it.

No worries mate. Not wrong though! they are very similar and its the size that sets them apart. Sparrow hawks are fantastic birds. We watch them coming sideways through the trees like bloody fighter jets. They hit our bird feeders at speed and take an unfortunate green finch or chaffinch and fly off with them in their talons. Occasionally they will perch just outside our conservatory and have a good look in just to see what we are up to.

Saw a peregrine returning with carrion dangling from it's hooks, maybe twenty, thirty metres over town, towards the towerblock where the nest is. Several other birds sniffed it out the situation and took position to make an attempt at stealing the goods. As soon as a couple got within a few yards the peregrine opened its wings and soared away like a jet fighter switching on the afterburners and breaking from from a formation of prop trainers. It ascended the couple of hundred feet to the top of the towerblock and the nest in seconds flat, leaving the rest circling the outdoors seating at the cafe looking for leftover pastrami sandwiches.

And yeah. Magpies, why doesn't that suprise me. Little chavvy attitude machines whose sole purpose in life seems to be to try it on with every other bird or animal in existence and wind everyone up.

I'd pay good money to see that...love watching hawks and falcons. Loads round here.

what kind are you talking about mate. Peregrines?

Seen a few Peregrines in the valleys and there is a nesting pair on the cliffs above the sea a couple of miles from here, we've got loads of Buzzards, love watching and listening to them. There's one that thinks it's a seagull and feeds with them on the flooded rugby pitch and as for Kites, almost plague proportions especially when the pheasant breeders release the birds for the shooters. The pheasant road kill round here draw them all in and they can be a hazard on the roads.
