Wouldn't those with the severest systems be admitted to hospital. Which would suggest that those numbers are fairly accurate?
I don't want derail the thread again but in practise if you are elderly with severe respiritory disease that is expected to be what you die of then if you get signs of pneumonia you wouldn't be tested for corona unless it was spreading to others in the same home or with staff

We don’t need to clutter the thread we know the answer

Bat flu being able to cross species was discovered in 2012 in Zurich

8 years ago it was said to be a deadly future issue.

No one did owt about it.

Could have happened anywhere there was bats interacting with humans , the wet markets just gave it somewhere to mix easier than the wild.

The Germans are planning on doing anti body tests and if you’ve had it you get a certificate, which states you can continue life as normal.

This must mean they’re confident on immunity.

Gove has mentioned we’re looking into it.

I want one of those bands around my wrist like they had on the Contagion movie - assuming I get it and survive it... oh and chuck in a Blue Peter badge as well.

Cypriots adopting a novel approach:
"Residents are only allowed to leave their homes once a day and only after receiving permission after sending a text message to an official number." Guardian.
So, if you don't have a phone capable of sending such a message, you're grounded.

Time will tell. I reckon there is more to come out about this. I do increasingly get the feeling that millions have had it in the UK and its been here a little longer than is currently being suggested.

One thing I am sure of is that as bad as this is, it will turn out that the world has had a very lucky escape. Had it been a serious killer that spread at the same pace think its quite possible the population of this country could well have been about 30million and dropping right now.
I agree with that. Whatever the eventual outcome of this - terrible though it is - the world dodged a bullet here and it could have been SO much worse. Little comfort right now, least alone for anyone affected or who have lost a loved one etc, i know. And sorry for even saying it.

Hopefully there will now be a massive worldwide effort to find a general purpose vaccine and cure effective for all future coronavirus outbreaks, because had this one been more ebola-like in its mortality rate, it could wipe out half the planet.

Think you got the wrong one mate, mine was beginning of Feb.

As it goes I am actually not far off being a practising hermit during the winter here. I have M.E. and Fibro and rarely get out of the flat from Nov/April and would probably have only been nr the other half during the time i had whatever it was. To be fair even the doctor whom oversees a meds trial I am on has since said he would not rule it out in my case.

Sorry to hear that - Have to admit I had to Google what Fibro is so at least I've learnt something today on bm :-)

We know things are very bad in Italy we know those death figures are very sad. But obsessing with the death figure every day without the balance that first they have levelled off and will drop later than new confirmed cases, also new cases seem to be slowly dropping and daily recoveries are rising 1460 today isn’t good for peoples mental health. We all need some positivity amongst the bad stuff, it at least helps us have confidence there is an end to this.

agree. Pretty much everyone is taking this fuckin serious now - everyone is doing their part. we are all aware of the daily death figures , the doom and gloom seems to be an enjoyment to some.

how can they make a vacine for all future outbreaks when they nave not broke out.thats a bit like eating your dinnner before its cooked, that cant be done, we can only work with what we have dished up to us in real time

I was just agreeing with you that I had something very similar, I’m not going to give it a name but it was fucking awful and wasn’t flu.

yep
flu or chest infection it was not. so lets leave at that because you and I are on the same page

The biggest lesson we can learn is how to react globally when any new virus appears. To lock down the source and isolate it immediately if we learn that lesson many millions of lives could be saved if and when an even more deadly virus appears.

I haven’t seen a debate about care homes.

What I’m asking is, is it your opinion, or is it a fact, that the figures aren’t all Coronavirus deaths?
As i have said, sky just said the figures we are getting is hospital deaths, they have only been testing those in hospital with it and those who present having been in contact with or coming back from italy or china

even nhs staff have not been tested till now

Not necessarily so mate.

At the moment that's the way we develop vaccines for these types of viruses. But perhaps there is another way that can attack ALL coronaviruses, and which does not have to be specific to the particular type. They all have common features, so surely there must be a way to target something they have in common. I just don't think the world has tried that hard yet. We've been caught napping and this is the wake up call.
