Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

From Dan Moan at the BeeB.....

‘This has the potential to turn into one of the gravest PR disasters in the Premier League's history’.

I will be finished with the PL and top flight football if this isn’t sorted out quickly. The fucking audacity of these twats to furlough staff who earn low salaries just because they can and because someone else is picking up the tab...us, the tax payer.

These fuckers have no morals whatsoever.

Something isn't right when a company can turnover £400m + pay some of its staff over £100k per week yet they want the government to bail them out. Meanwhile SMEs are probably going to have to close for good and are really struggling.

I knew football at the top level and most of the pyramid was pretty fcked financially but this really has shown how bad it is. The fact that we are talking about clubs could even go under in the premier league if they don't get TV money, Spurs and Newcastle putting staff into furlough amongst other things. Football may need a complete reset after this whole thing and if it means new clubs being born then so be it.

Players should not be asked to forfeit their wages because clubs cant look after themselves, its embarassing. If players want to donate to NHS etc then great, they shouldn't be paying the wages of the cleaners, cooks and candle stick makers.

What! They earn millions, a little help with other peoples wages doesnt do no harm and actually does a lot of good. You are seriously happy to see low paid staff lose their jobs whilst some footballers earn £1m a month!? It's a time for helping, not greed surely?

Do most premier league clubs make substantial profits, or are they running at loss/break even? Not something I’m particularly aware of.

If it’s the latter not sure how they can easily pay out, more than any other company.
If all the mega money is tied up in player/manager wages and contracts, surely the only way clubs can use some of that to keep playing all their other staff is if the players agree?

If it’s the former then for sure, clubs should be supporting their staff fully, without issue.
