COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Not sure the actual use and relevance of the daily death numbers when there likely to happened over the last 7 days. Maybe they should be reported weekly.

Because testing only allows you to trace known contacts whereas the virus waits for strangers to pick it up.
Plus because you infect people before showing the symptoms then it’s pretty useless as the amount of people you can potentially infect, who then infect others etc just goes off the charts.

288 planes landing at Heathrow today from all around the world. And some people think this will all be over in a few weeks.

How many would land in a normal day? How many passengers on board, they can’t be many surely

I expect those are repatriation flights, cargo and logistics - who in their right mind would be flying to the U.K. now? They might as well go on holiday to Naples....

Can’t see there being 288 anyway, some of those will be alliance flights where 5 or more airlines sell tickets on to the plane etc too.

Snap. As I mentioned previously, my brother lives and works in Stockholm and said it’s pretty much business as usual. He was working all day in hair salon yesterday, took his lad to football training last night, and he’s working then playing golf today. Followed by a meal out later etc etc.

Fucking mental, imo.
Daft question, but does he need to be told to stay in, to actually act sensible

This sort of stuff is worthless after the fact.
New research from the sofa in Zurich.
lockdown 3 months earlier would have led to no epidemic.
Easy isn't it?

3 weeks ago the situation was far better known, especially given what was happening in Italy, than 3 months ago.

What I don’t get is why it always says, “died after testing positive for covid19”

will it say on a death certificate
Cause of death was testing positive for covid 19.

I believe it's because Covid19 is a notifiable disease whereas, flu, for example isn't. So, in the past, we would have no idea of how many people caught flu or when they caught it and anyone who died with flu would usually have their cause of death attributed to something like bronchopneumonia or pneumonia, old age or something similar.

That is why it is dangerous to make hysterical assumptions about how much worse this virus is in terms of fatalities than normal flu relying on extrapolations from incomplete data. The only way we will have any real idea of how fatal this virus is is by comparing total deaths over the year to previous year's totals.

684 died yesterday in hospital in the UK a rate increase of 115 from yesterday.
4450 new cases (critical or serious) yesterday a rate increase of 206.

can someone help me please. I am a little confused around the target for testing by the end of the month. Is it 25,000 tests per day or 100,000 tests per day. Thanks.

The number of deaths, tallied in the 24 hours up to 5pm on Thursday, is an increase from the previous day when 569 people were confirmed as dying with COVID-19

Scotland: 46 more deaths - a total of 172
Wales: 24 more deaths - a total of 141

The Department of Health compiles its figures from data supplied by the four countries' health agencies, who then release their own figures, often taking into account more deaths and figures
