What's the plan?
I mean, once we sort our shit out and get somewhere near controlling it in the UK.
How do we stop the incoming from countries where it's way out of control?

If we sort our shit out

We have to test them on arrival and quarantine anyone who tests positive.

Somehow I am thinking we just won't bother though. I mean, we aren't at the moment despite the 600 deaths per day. ?!?!!???!!

288 planes landing at Heathrow today from all around the world. And some people think this will all be over in a few weeks.

Absolute madness.

We have closed our borders a while back, and any new arrivals obviously returning citizens have a mandatory 14 quarantine in a hotel and monitored by the army.

The spread of the virus is predominantly from overseas travellers still.

To continue allowing that amount of traffic on a daily basis is just mind blowing.

Really hard to watch from over here (Melbourne) in what's going on in the UK.

If you look at where this virus is on fire and places still looking to get like us. Africa and South America, safest place is Greenland at the mo.

Containment, treatments that are being developed, more testing, more people will have had it and generally will have immunity and eventually a vaccine.

I expect a combination of the above but to prevent complete economic collapse then as last resort the government would have to allow more or less everyone to get it and then try to treat as many as possible with a chance of surviving. The death rate must be very low as there is no way only 130,000 people have had it. I'd say millions already probably.

You're discounting the fact a large number will be cargo and freight transport.

Implement Taiwan anti viral measures lock, stock and two smoking barrels.

Wouldn't population size N and susceptible % dictate Rt? and therefore both maximum mortality rate and absolute mortality value? (assuming sealed system)

Without being an epidemiologist I would say yes, but that approach might be a bit too general
as e.g. density (key for virus transmission) could be locally quite different throughout a given population, and that's where we try to intervene to get Rt down. 6 feet apart.

There are certainly more natural external factors influencing virus Rt, e.g. weather related.
