Scariest away day following City

Was in the stretford end, blues everywhere, Imre Varadi had a equaliser ruled out,

Just watched that game on YouTube or 20 mins highlights. Shit footage but I cannot understand why that goal was disallowed from what they showed. We had thousands there that day. Our end must have been 12000 and then more all over the ground.

I can't remember why it was disallowed, unbelievable amount of blues there

That was the day City got ambushed at The Whalley pub. Hundreds of blues inside and United, to quote a Blue who has been everywhere and fought with everyone, "brought the biggest mob I've ever seen".

I think it was documented in Mickey Francis Guvnors book. We were shit that season and ended up relegated at West Ham

Mayhem before & during game, got to train station after game & ironicly burnley had been away at bolton same day & their special train came into station que a fuckin riot with burnley thinking we were blackburn!! i got the wrecked train back to burnley as well!!!

Not sure it was an ambush as everyone knew what was going to happen, think it was the numbers that surprised everyone. Think there are at least a couple on this site that were at the Whalley that day and in K stand

That train was held out of the station for a long while. Then it was allowed in and they threw out a load of calling cards Burnley Head Hunters if I remember right.

I was on the platform when that happened. They were throwing Burnley suicide squad cards as they pulled into the station.
They panicked when a window went through.

I went to Mansfield Town once with some Bolton fans (Don't ask )

Mansfield Town? ffs maniacs
Lower league clubs could spring all sorts of surprises, I went to plenty of aways with Stockport over the years and got in all manner of scrapes, Chesterfield, Lincoln, Exeter, Darlo to name but a few, then there was the likes of Stoke, Burnley, Wolves to contend with when they came down in the basement league.

Bolton fans were no saints, I jumped on a coach with them after an England v Scotland game at Wembley in the 80s, not only kicking off with the jocks this coachful were battling with the coach full of Stoke parked next to them.

I didn’t realise it had been held back. I don’t think any blues were expecting Burnley as there was a moments pause before it sunk in.

I remember one lad pulling half a snooker cue out of his jacket.
I had walked past him and that was the last thing I expected.

Remember coming back from away games in the 70s off the train at piccadilly, there would be that many rags waiting on Piccadilly approach the coppers would escort us out the back way, so you not only had a rough away day but you had the rags to deal with. One year coming back from stoke our train pulled in as the cockney reds were getting on train out across the platform absolute chaos.

It got worse when the trains got back to a Manc too as Everton had been playing at United so more trouble in Manc City Centre.
