The truth is the virus does not discriminate and the overwhelming number of fatalities across the world are people over 70...

Not in Germany. (Edit: Yes in Germany - average age of infected is under 50 but most dying are over 70)

Of the older people dying in the UK (and if I'm wrong, supply the stats) it will affect more the poor elderly (who have worse health). The rich elderly have buggered off to their isolated second homes.

Why don't you say that cabinet ministers followed our Chief Medical Officers advice? It is the advisors who got it wrong, not the cabinet. I guess that doesn't fit your agenda.

That’s just guesswork on your part chippy and probably not good guesswork either.

I'd say being abusive makes you an inadequate parent.
I changed it to "abusive" because that was what the Newsnight piece was about. Someone tried to spin it with a rant about inadequate parenting and missed the point.

My partner is a nurse, she is scared to go to work and has a cry every night. not good times and a feel there is not allot i can do to help other than sorting things out at home.
I feel for you and even more for her. Give her cuddles and reassure her as best you can. I imagine I speak for most if not all forum members in saying that she is a hero to us all. Stay strong Blue.

Sorry me neither 2 and bit...;) English-speaking world. On land, the league is most commonly defined as three miles, though the length of a mile could vary from place to place and depending on the era. At sea, a league is three nautical miles (3.452 miles; 5.556 kilometers).

So there league's apart, reminds me of us & the scum..

My guess is the end of May will be the earliest restrictions will start to be lifted.

Would be my guess too. And based on how it's been handled so far I wouldn't expect anything more creative or progressive in terms of managing it other than turning lockdown on and off for the foreseeable future beyond that. I expect we'll see one or two other countries leading the way on smarter ways of going about things.

I've transported society back to late 1939 where the air raid siren is merely a signal for everyone to go and cycle or jog because they are entitled for an hour till that all clear goes, dig for Victory is now Jog for Victory, production of everything at a standstill because everyone has decided to work from home, conscription suspended due to an appeal to the court of human rights by someone in Liverpool, Your country needs you campaign cancelled because someone took offence at being pointed at, Battle of Britain next year postponed because everybody's fear of flying. How mentally weak as a nation are we when a few weeks of partial lockdown means we all fall apart. If you think you're stressed imagine the poor NHS workers on the frontline. Get a grip stay in and if you are a parent tell your kids to stayin

87% of deaths over 70 at the end of March in Germany similar to the rest of the world.I don't know what proportion of those have second homes and failed to escape - maybe Momentum keep the stats
"The 583 COVID-19-related deaths reported in Germany since 09/03/2020 concerned 384 (66%) men and 198 (34%) women. The median age was 82 years and the range 28 to 104 years. Of all deaths, 507 (87%) were in persons 70 years or older. Of all reported cases only 12% were 70 years or older. Reports on COVID-19 related outbreaks in nursing homes are increasing. In these outbreaks the case fatality is high. In some of these outbreaks, the number of deaths is relatively high."
