My mrs is on maternity leave and returns to work in June. Assuming our boy still can’t be looked after by grandparents, what exactly are we supposed to do? We can’t work from home and look after a baby. Both are full time jobs. Would be easier if he was older and could be placated with an iPad all day but at his age we don’t have that luxury! Anyone in that situation now? How are you dealing with it? Can my mrs be furloughed to look after our son or is that not a possibility?

The company she is working for may let her take dependent leave. Do they have an advice line?

While out on my one daily exercise crossed with picking up prescription, I was surprised to see so many people milling about (people in their late 60's, 70's) and road traffic was pretty damn high during work hours, it was like a sunny weekend day FFS. Lock down will last much longer as it isn't sinking in for many.
Saw my elderly next door neighbour out the other day and I thought he was quite sensible. Turns out he isn't as he was grumbling that he might not have long left on this world and he doesn't want to waste it by being in all the time! Next door saw him go out twice in his car and then a third time for a walk. He lives with his son so there is no need for him to go out shopping etc as his son could. Seems there is no telling some people.

Statistically speaking, that is almost certainly incorrect.
You may be right. The difference is that cabinet ministers have been doing some stupid things re social distancing, low-paid workers have had little choice. Cabinet ministers was a bad example of the point that this affects the poor more (not least density of housing as well as public-facing risky jobs).

Got to keep moral up.
When Trump says it he gets hammered from all sides.
Remember the reason germany currently appears to be bucking the trend is that they have a stricter lockdown than the UK and were still able to contact trace. As soon as they ease springs the infection rate will go up and eventually it will reach the older age groups. Currently in Germany the average age of a covid mortality is 49. They have kept it away from the aged.(or are not reporting their deaths).

We are not reporting deaths unless it is in hospital and a tested case.

Anyone thinking this will be over by mid May are kidding themselves, we should expect more stringent lock down rules before we even think of it being eased. People aren't sticking to the rules, the majority are but everybody needs to. Just because we've mostly been inside for 3 weeks doesn't mean this has gone away. I work front line in the NHS and at the moment things are getting worse everyday.

He could be taking stuff to relatives/shopping or a whole number of other things and either way, I'm sure if he's as sensible as you say, he'll probably just be keeping himself to himself as best he can whatever the circumstance. It's the people gathering in groups that we should be getting worked up about.

My partner is a nurse, she is scared to go to work and has a cry every night. not good times and a feel there is not allot i can do to help other than sorting things out at home.

Tell her shes a hero like all other nhs staff.
My misses had to visit someone who's suspected to have ityesterday to take blood.
That's when it hits home

Apologies if this has as already been posted here or elsewhere, reports that Pep' mother has passed away of Covid-19. Terrible news, my heart goes out to him and his family.

You'll likely find you'll be bullied into putting child into care if you're both essential workers, or one of you stays off unpaid - that's my experience, gonna do the 14 day thing first cough/sneeze from the Mrs, followed by 7 days if I cough/sneeze - reap what you sow bad employers. Two fingered salute!

How do fortitude and strength of character stop you catching the disease? You missed the point. Low-paid workers are more likely to get it than cabinet ministers (despite their efforts to ignore their own guidelines).
Listen again Vic - according to her praising those attributes is 'trite and misleading' and 'does not help you to survive the disease, despite what the PMs colleagues tells you'. 'The disease is not a great leveller' she proclaims and then 'this myth needs debunking' - they've put 'the low paid health and essential workers at greatest risk' who are apparently much more likely to live alongside the rest of the poor in 'in overcrowded flats.'
The truth is the virus does not discriminate and the overwhelming number of fatalities across the world are people over 70 - not those workers on the frontline despite their heroic sacrifices. This is the soundtrack to the BBC political agenda - undermining the government efforts and blaming them wherever and whenever they can find the flimsiest pretext. The government's response will certainly turn out to have had very serious shortcomings but for now we must give them the benefit of any doubt and trust they have followed the best advice available at the time crucial decisions were made.
