I was quite liking hancock but passing the buck to frontline staff is out of order, they are dying, they are entitled to be protected with PPE from the second they get to work to the second they leave, they should not be even thinking perhaps i should put some on or use it sparingly,he has shown his true colours today

I didn't take it like that, he was saying to the general population don't panic buy it all as the government need it for NHS. edit. also other countries were putting blocks on PPE supplies as they want it - be interesting to see which countries they were.

I didn't take it like that I thought he was asking if an item and circumstance allows re use please don't discard after each use as its needed common sense really.

I wonder how many got through the net ?
As some have said and if you read the comments on the link you will see comments about atherstan road, the road is a ghetto and full of non English and do as they please. Many reports from local people saying that social distancing isnt been carried out there. We wont even do food delivery there as it's to dangerous
I’m only a few miles from you and it’s eerily quiet. Small coastal town with a population predominantly of UK heritage, relatively high socio-economic grouping, normally popular with tourists. Not a house party or BBQ in sight or earshot.

If Carlsberg did profiling...

Walking has never been so popular. The government can never say this but people don’t need to go for daily walks or runs it’s not essential to 99% of the population. If you absolutely need to exercise use your gardens, use your stairs, use a treadmill/bike/rower or just run on the fucking spot

oh, waLking

Maybe it's just the getting out of the house

Because lockdown us screwing our economy. Millions of healthy young people are losing their jobs. The forloughing of millions of people will have to be repaid. A recession will lead to tens of thousands of people losing their lives. The nhs has to be paid for, schools have to be paid for, if this lockdown continues for too long the resulting recession will make the financial crash look like a chimps tea party. Lockdown is extremely challenging for those suffering with mental illness, and I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest to see a spike in suicides. I was encouraged to hear a question to the health secretary regarding the modelling of number of lives lost due to a recession. This work needs to be done and the statistics need to be released to the British people so a grown up conversation can be had about the pros and cons of continuing to suppress the economy. The lockdown is not cost free, in terms of finance, lives lost and the future stability of the country.

The premise of your argument is that there is a real choice between saving lives now and saving the economy. The problem is that without drastic measures the pandemic will overwhelm the healthcare system, many doctors and nurses will get ill and won't be able to do their job, as a result many young people will be affected because they can't be treated, which will overwhelm the economy itself. Saving lives now or saving the economy? It's a false dilemma.

Scientific research has shown that the US cities which were longer in a lockdown during the Spanish flu in 1918 recovered ecomically faster than the cities which tried to save the economy and lifted the lockdown a bit prematurely.

Have to say, I find it rather upsetting that chances are we are going to have the worst figures in Europe pretty soon.

We all talked about the reasons why Italy and Spain were getting hammered with it a few weeks ago yet in the next couple of weeks I’d expect we will have overtaken them both.

Sad.
