Scariest away day following City

Don't know how far back you go but before the container they had a shop, at the end nearest the pub, cant remember why they changed to the container. Do you remember the woman who ran it back in the 80s, really good sort she was, attractive too, black curly hair.

They changed to the container when punters from the Greenwood started taking films out from the video shop when it was shut. Try getting into a container pissed, nightmare.

Ah right, makes sense. I used to run the car spares shop at the far end, between the Offy and the butchers, never had any real hassle.

I remember playing Coventry on a Sunday in the 80s, it was a daft kick off time, morning if i recall think we drew 2-2. Went on the special and it broke down so got in the ground late. West Midlands police always enjoyed getting stuck in.

Remember going to Barnsley in the 80’s when train hit a horse I think. We got there well into the game and it must have looked like Zulu when 400 lads were legging it down the hill towards the ground. 0-0 draw too!

as a child of the moss i do not believe some of the stuff on here. the moss was a great place to grow up and as you got older the big weston pub was my home.and all the shebeens as we called them in those days. rudis at the park gates. the nile shakumo at brookses bar and maany others were great. i am proud to say i am from moss side and always will be.

It's only one fella talking it down mate, the rest of us know full well there's good and bad everywhere.

That Coventry game, the old bill piled us on double decker buses when we eventually landed at the train station. Some kid had a radio on when we equalised, thought the bus was gonna flip. Miss them days, loved the special.

Remember going to Oakwell 1981 Nov I think in the QF of the League Cup

The local halfwits all turned up and cascaded us with Slate from the nearby Colliery, I was the Lucky
Recipient of one piece Staraight on my left fore arm ouch!

Kicked off in the Coach Area after the game too

Now there would be trouble:)

I thought you had gone upmarket in Prestwich.

btw I hadn’t realised that there was an undercurrent at the Bluemooners gatherings. I thought the only currents were in the Strongbow Dark Fruits lol. I was going to start a post saying let’s aim for a Bluemooners September meet up (virus permitting) but I don’t fancy separating the Pals from the Muggy Mancs lol.

Would it had been December '85, ended 0-0 ?
Spent the Friday night in Brownley Road Police Station for D & D, but still daft enough to head over to Sheffield the next morning.

Still hungover, chased all over Sheffield City centre. Ended up in a pub with fellow blues near the ground but were soon sussed out and barricaded ourselves in the lounge.
Was pretty sure the windows were going to be caved him until Police arrived in force to escort us to the ground. Interesting weekend !
Nov 84 mate

I remember going to Elland Road for the first time aged about 13. Just pulling up into the carpark and two coppers stormed on the coach flailing their batons at those at the front. Several got a crack including a kid and an elderly woman. One said "Right, you didn't see anything, behave yourselves and you'll get no trouble". Bully boy bastards!

And walking to the stadium we got pelted with rocks and bottles from Leeds scum on top of their infamous 'Death Hill'. A lot of trouble that day.

Agreed. Chelsea were like the rags. All mouth when they had more numbers but no backbone.
To be fair you can say that about every single bell end of any club who wanted to have a scrap about football. Every. Single. One.

I've lost track of the times over the years I have seen twats bouncing about, arms outstretched, on high streets all over the country, terrifying mums and kids going about their lives only to run like the frightened children many of them were the moment a copper (singular) or a group of more than two opposing fans turned up.

Absolute bellends and cowards to a boy. Very very few of them would dream of actually having a stand up fight against another person one on one.

If you want to see how tough our great English hooligan is have a quick look at the footage from the world cup in France the other year. English top boys crying and running like frightened kids when the Russians turned up and smashed them all over France.

I'll get ruined for this post of course simply because I used to go to a game and watch the game then get back to my car afterwards and go home. Never once felt the need to gang up on some frightened kid with another team's colours on. Never once felt the need to throw things at people from the safety of a crowd of fellow shit houses.

Absolute scum and filth, whomever they purported to support.

They would have tried for about 5 seconds. Then they'd have realised the Russians were actually prepared to fight, not dance, and they would have turned, ran, and swam back across the channel.

Once back home they would have told tall tales about how they'd "had it" with the Russians, and "ran them" all over marseilles and would have "done them proper" if it wasn't for "the dibble" turning up.

Cowards. Scum. Filth.

Did you follow City away in the 70's and 80's?

Did you follow City away in the 70's and 80's?

Mainly the 80's onwards and mainly at home with the odd local-ish away thrown in.

Not sure of your point but if you're going to tell me that I had to be there to have an opinion I'll have to disagree.

I have seen far too many scumbags bouncing around in their Adidas samba pushing and shoving but only actually fighting when the numbers were in their favour by a ratio of at least 3:1 to know that the vast majority of "boys" were frightened cowards. Meek as mice during the week, overdosing on hard **** tablets when surrounded by a few of their mates at weekends, but only then when out numbering "the opposition".

I've been to 1000's of games and never once had a fight, thrown a missile, bounced around like a bellend, or been anywhere near an altercation of any sort. (Except for one time walking back down mauldeth road after beating villa 2-1 when 5 villa "boys" started on me and my mate. We told them to fuck off and guess what? They did).

If you go or went to a game of football hoping for, or looking for, or prepared to get involved with, any sort of violence you were a bellend and a scumbag.

At the league cup semi against Everton a couple of years ago a couple of Everton fans jumped up when they went one nil up in our end. Sure as night follows day some scrotes jumped up (after checking they outnumbered the two everton dicks) and punched one of them on the back of the head (waited until he was past them so he couldn't see the attack, naturally), acting the big man. The everton lad turned around and offered it him and surprisingly the coward quickly backed away.

It was stupid then, its stupid now, and its indefensible.

I got an old school hooligan site come up on my facebook so joined it.You can tell some of the guys posting have been very active in the past.Lots of different clubs.

They have a similar thread on there and the amount who say Maine Road was a nightmare shocked me.Never seemed that bad to me but the alleyways for away fans was I suppose.
True. Maine Road was not for the faint hearted away fan, neither was Goodison Park for the for the same reason. Coronation Street two up two down like houses and labyrinth of alleyways and gable ends were no place for those who didn't know the area.

Leeds home game early 80s I remember Leeds scum trying to set the Shell garage on Wilmslow rd alight. I was on my own and heading to the Kippax. What they were unaware is we had several young black lads as spotters riding round on the Grifters and Choppers. They tipped our boys off who were hiding behind a gable end near the souvenir shop. Leeds came marching down looking for bother and they got it big time when our boys sprung an attack. More Leeds than us but the sheer panic of being ambushed had them scarpering as they got a twatting.

I'm not condoning violence, I went the game for the beer and craic. It's just the way things were back then.
