Do you ever give the snide comments a rest?Probably the same as all the other experts on here
Well it will be until we’re, firstly, on the downward trend of the first wave and, secondly, until we get a vaccine. Even then we’ll have the bad news of the second wave and maybe a third wave, possibly failed attempts at getting a vaccine, not forgetting the economy too, and of course all the deaths.Feels like the more they learn about this virus the worse it actually gets at the moment... hate to sound really negative but it's bad news on top of bad news currently.

Thoroughly depressing and will not be at all surprising if it’s borne out by the official stats in due course.https://amp.ft.com/content/67e6a4ee-3d05-43bc-ba03-e239799fa6ab?__twitter_impression=true

As would testing, and tracing. The UK has not done that for many weeks, and hence the infection rate in the UK is higher than it otherwise would have been though how higher we do not know.I thought I'd heard it said that Germany only record cases tested confirmed by a doctor. Might be wrong but it might explain the significantly lower number.

If I were you, I’d take a few days off reading/watching/listening anything at all to do with it. I do it for two days of every week and on those days it makes it miles easier to cope with everything.
Genuine question - how do you manage to avoid the internet? My career is based around it/social media so its almost impossible to not see it tbh.
I'm okay btw. Handling it fine. Just ya know...shite innit.
By watching documentaries, films, cooking, going for a walk, cleaning or DIY, exercising, FaceTime my family, listening to music (I have lots of music playlists on Apple Music/YouTube/Soundcloud), album listening parties, go food shopping, when online just do some online shopping or reading things other than to do with this, order a few books and have a read, make lists of things you need or need to do and add dates to them for when you’ll get them or get them done...Genuine question - how do you manage to avoid the internet? It's sobering to compare the situation in the UK to that of South Korea. Of course there are differences, but there is a country comparable to the UK; similar size of population, similar average age, similar population density. They test everyone with symptoms and then isolate outbreaks. This is what we should have done, but we did not prepare and don't have the testing facilities.

By March 7th they had 7,000 active cases and we had 200. They had 48 people dead already, we had 2.
6 weeks on, their total dead is 237 and ours is 17,000.
And we still aren't recommending what they have been doing, wearing masks in public, nor have managed to scale up mass testing. Depressing.
(Worldometers figures - actuals are probably much higher as we know.)

Glad you’re okay fella, I see you mention you don’t cope so well a few times a week and you do wonder!
will be harsh on us the total figures, not just for the many incompetence in so many areas but also we will be honest overall with figures compared to so many other countries around the world
Why do you think over government will be anymore honest than others?
Personally I think the huge level of benefit of universal mask wearing in public places is grossly misunderstood by our academics.they never imposed any lockdown like we did , it was guidance given from the govt (like boris originally gave for the first week) To use social distancing , wash hands etc. Use common sense.
South Koreans though complied.
Personally I think the huge level of benefit of universal mask wearing in public places is grossly misunderstood by our academics.
If you imagine that in the vast majority of cases, it is mucus droplets which spread the infection (rather than airborne aerosol virus) then if everyone wears a mask in public, no surfaces get contaminated, no mucus gets inhaled, no-one catches it. Full stop.
The difference in spread and in death rates between mask-wearing and non-mask-wearing countries is so stark and impossible to ignore, and yet the brilliant scientists have their head up their arses, waffling on about the dangers of improperly fitted masks and of touching your face more. Whereas the empirical evidence that mask-wearing works, is staring them in the face.
