COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Now we’ve “peaked” so to say, whats the chances off lockdown being lifted 7th may? or do we get one more to be safe rather than sorry?

I reckon the Dutch timeline is slightly ahead of the UK timeline, and its primary schools are tentatively scheduled to reopen on May 11th. Even then, children are only returning 50% of the time, so it is a more incremental return. At the same time, the German government is concerned that its good work to date could be undone as individual states seek to reopen, some in undue haste.
Spoke to people in China earlier and their schools still remain closed, so it’s hard to see anything but a long, protracted deconfinement in most places.

There seems to be a big push in the media in particular to end the lockdown. I understand the economic need, but I don’t agree.

even pictures today of hundreds of people queuing outside a five guys restaurant (bizarre) surely shows if you lift restrictions lots of people will just gather and possibly get the virus

Schools may as well stay shut until September now, no point in them going back unless they go start of August and have no 6 week holidays, however if holiday forms are working how many kids will be taken out of school in that period. I think it’s best to wrote it off until September. I reckon we will go in lockdown again around November if there is no vaccine as the winter months set in and flu etc takes hold again.

Just so you're aware this is the exact test that they had in the picture.

How are the government doing these tests if they don't exist?
We are doing the test to see if you currently have it,we have been doing that ages, the antibody test is a plan, the next stage, the tests available are being tested to find a reliable one, hence being validated by Oxford,we have not had any reliable ones,we brought two million from china and had to send them back,as did spain,s of a few days ago nobody has one they can use now that gives you the certainty of reliable results

“We were optimistic that a number of companies have been offering us these quick antibody tests and we were hoping they would be fit for purpose. They all work to some extent, but are not good enough to rely on. The judgment was made that it is better to develop a better antibody test before rolling it out.

Scientists at Oxford University - who are investigating the reliability of these rapid tests, have yet to approve any, meaning it could now be months before they are used in the UK, if at all.

England's chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty admitted on Thursday that the Government was still a long way off getting a reliable antibody test.
He argues the 'one thing worse than no test is a bad test'.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency says no test under 98 per cent accurate is safe for mass-use.

A healthcare assistant has died with coronavirus just days after the virus killed her husband.Sharon Bamford, 63, who worked at Swansea's Singleton Hospital, died on Tuesday becoming the eighth Welsh NHS worker to die with COVID-19.
Her death came just days after her 73-year-old husband Malcolm died in the same intensive care unit at Morriston Hospital

Another angel lost

I fucking hate this virus

Good numbers today.

I don’t think any are good, improving maybe

Masks are NOT required. Just cloth - a scarf or bandana to catch the aerosol droplets that YOU breath out, cough out, sneeze out or emit when you talk.
This will much reduce virus accumulating on surfaces or floating through the air.
It is so obvious I totally fail to understand Whitty and his boys in SAGE can't see it.
Of course you need to wash your hands as well.
Blue, being a biker I have several bandanas that I use round my neck whilst riding. If I used one of these to cover my mouth and nose while out and about, would you advocate washing it everytime I've used it? I'm guessing so, genuine question mate

My place of work (manufacturing) has text staff (should have written) informing everyone we are reopening on Monday and furlough is being stopped. Staff I am in touch with are a bit pissed because the company has not paid out any monies for furlough so we don’t even know if they put us on the scheme, they will not answer the question with confirmation.

They have also not told us how they intend to implement safe working. It seems a few businesses are returning next week. A fair few cars on the road today. I think we may get our herd immunity after all.

Yes. Take it off when you get home and put it in the washing machine (or under a UV ozone emitting lamp for 45 mins). Then thoroughly wash you hands
