Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

i think the best thing is they plan for next season,expert planing and people will purchase the games,we will know more about where we stand in august,people simply and me included dont want this going on while there is a rolling 600 a day dying,its just not right,thats my opinion and prob 95% on here,those staff at city would be better staying at home and the club doctors putting an input into the NHS and all the equipment they have going back into the system to help people out,its 9 games and somewhere in the chain it will cost a life via infection its just not worth it

And that's fine if it's next season so be it, providing it is safe and the government say it's ok. Some fans seem to think that by playing with no fans it's all to satisfy the TV companies and it isn't. Without football of some sort the clubs will go out if business so behind closed doors is the only option.

Mass gatherings will be the last thing that are allowed so by the time sport can be played behind closed doors, it won't just be essential businesses that are open.

We are getting to the usual Khaldoon interview season this month. I doubt we'll get one anytime soon, but it would be nice to know his stance on this and why (if we are) we are supporting the interests of the likes of Liverpool on this, after all they've done to us.

We must obviously have reasons but they don't appear to be in our sporting interests based on this season.

that last paragraph indicates its going to get tasty
The top three tweets are from iffy journos,the heavy weights ones are reporting it more accurately i think,from what the club said about a month ago about us not risking anyone till it is completely safe i reckon we are sticking up for our staff whilst balancing the financial stuff

The Premier League's bottom teams will make a last-ditch bid to get the season cancelled. [
@DExpress_Spor

The Emirates, Etihad and London Stadium will be among 'up to ten' neutral venues if the Government allows the Premier League to continue from June 12th. Around 40,000 coronavirus tests for players and staff would also be needed amid the Covid-19 pandemic. [
@MartinLipton

Sporting authorities are considering playing all football in England's top-four leagues in front of empty stadiums until May 2021. [
@MartinLipton

More than one Premier League club feels the current campaign should end as the obstacles to resumption in mid-June are simply too great. The main concern is whether playing on would put the health of players, staff and, their families at risk. [
@guardian_sport

The PFA has made it plain that the safety of players is its overriding concern; it will not contemplate putting them in harm's way. Some players want the union to make a stand on their behalf. [
@guardian_sport

The Premier League's big six have warned that voting to cut short the campaign could lead to next season being scrapped as well, as a major split emerged. Up to 10 clubs are threatening to vote against a resumption in a ballot that could be held as early as Friday. [
@MailSport
If martin lyptons tweet is close to be true they can cancel this season because they cant keep the integrity of the league. They can start next season behind closed doors and finish it behind closed doors then that keeps the integrity
And they can start now planning how next season can start

loads of people are going to go out of business,football is not a special case,it's tough and sad but it is a pandemic

Most people see football and all other sports as being not essential and towards the bottom of the list when it comes to resuming I believe that most sports people feel the same

So you think the travel industry is a higher priority? People needlessly flying around the world is the reason this spread. When safe football behind closed doors should go ahead in my opinion. I'm not saying start next week, it might be in 3 months time.

Someone else said the same thing this morning so I think it probably true

Erm teams have to travel all over the country by plane and trains

loads of people are going to go out of business,football is not a special case,it's tough and dad but it is a pandemic

Can someone miss a point any more? I'm it saying it's a special case. Just watching the news now about Spanish hotels looking to open in May, are you whinging about that? Once it's safe ant business has a right to try to adapt and survive. I don't understand why you would wish companies out of business.

Aside from all the problems already mentioned here's one of the main ones.

It just isn't feasible until this virus is properly under control.

What an exciting season that promises to be. Football is nothing without fans. It will just be utterly shit.

You seem massively argumentative and opinionated. Yes, the travel industry is a higher priority than a sport. Millions of people worldwild rely on the rest of the world travelling for their livelyhood. Football is a sport that if gone tomorrow would be soon forgotten in the world scheme of things. ( even though its obvious that we all love it)

Fuck sake,CONTACT SPORT what other business makes their staff do this with a high chance of injury and catching an infection nobody knows they have

A nine year old boy died on his own,his mother wasn't allowed in to hold him,in a British hospital,thousands more have died alone but we can send our players out to play a contact sport so nobody in football can go out of business

Pep has lost his mum

I do not want to see Sergio or kev or their wives in this position,i don't care who goes out of business so long as they stay alive

I give up

I don't want any industry to go under that is my point. For some reason some people are starting petitions and getting on the paper for writing letters to the league demanding football doesn't get played behind closed doors. All I am saying is when it is safe, it should be resumed behind closed doors until fans are allowed again. No doubt this will be after sections of the travel industry start to open. I hope so I have a weekend away booked in Cornwall at the start of June!

Eight strongest candidates for neutral #PL grounds: - Amex and St Mary's Stadium [South Coast] - London and Emirates Stadium [London] - King Power and Villa Park [Midlands] - Old Trafford and Etihad Stadium [North-West] Wembley & St George's Park are not options. [

So you want the world to be locked down forever then is what you're saying.

At some point it will be deemed safe and when it is should be played with or without fans.
