Haha, the faces on the furloughed people coming into work this morning, ranged from deliriously happy to suicidal.
Nice to see the lazy fcukers back :)
Some of the moaners on secure contracts with 100% salary will be sweating profusely.

I can hear the sound of rattling keyboards while they formulate a plausible sounding case for resistance.

In fairness I remember about 40 years ago just after a heart attack, problems with work and anxiety issues I was talking about my problems to a professor at MRI.
I mentioned that my wife kept saying she was worried about how to deal with our next door neighbours remarks. I ridiculed this as being tiny compared to my problems. He said if its that easy why don't you educate her. He said we all use the same quantity of worry cells for problems so her concerns were just as valid as mine.
The same professor advised me to take a ride on the bus of life rather than always trying to drive it.
Both suggestions have stayed with me and helped change my outlook on life.

In other words it was my attitude that needed to change rather than belittling other peoples worries or concerns because it will make me live longer.

Thanks for being an understanding mod..

Oh I like that, I'll use that on the missus next time she goes full on control freak

Selectively mass testing, we failed to test i many areas we should have early on
You said “until we do.....”, we’ll we are. Now you’re adding in that we should have been doing so early on. You’re probably right on that, but you’re wrong saying “until we do”.

Just catching up on the thread this morning and wow what a depressing place this has become. At first this thread was really useful and provided me with some useful information so I could best keep my family safe.

The constant negativity from the same posters over and over, it’s so tedious at this point. This is bigger than political point scoring ffs. One guy who has been hysterical for the last week or so didn’t even bother watching the speech than predictably finds fault with almost every word once they caught up with it. Just please give it a rest. I hope this thread goes back to what it once was and all the partisan political shite can stay far away.
Very similar post to one I wanted to write last night but then just thought what’s the point as I guessed at the kind of responses I’d have received.

Made me realise why I’m glad I never venture on to political threads but shame that it’s been allowed to infect (no pun intended) a very important thread.

So when we change the testing ie we don't just test people rocking up at hospital then that also impacts the R0? Are negative tests just ignored because they are still possible future infections?

I am afraid that the UK is embracing risk. The UK is seeking to execute a controlled infection so that come the Winter we don't incur a 2nd wave.

That means that we can not have a simple stay at home message any more. It is inevitably nuanced and we may have episodes of cycled social distancing ahead of us. You seek a clear instruction and black and white tactics but there are none.

For a sustained period your task is to stay clear of the virus. Everyone has the same job but with a background infection tens of thousands get infected each day. That is what is happening and has been happening for months now. We're past the peak of the first wave. The job now is to ensure no second wave and to do so by sustaining economic strength.

I think I understand and have always understood what the government's plans are but I do not know whether suppression as executed by South korea etc is a better strategy. We can see that even Germany which is the closest nation to South Korea has opted to open its society with the virus still not quiescent.

I think Boris took a big risk yesterday and failed to take the other countries with him and has now opened himself up to political dissent. I think it was a mistake to lose co-ordination and I don't see the rush to flip strategy when this is a long long campaign. The politics of it don't really interest me. I want to stay safe, and I want my family to get though this and get back on with life. In general I prefer the activist route of moving to a goal rather than just putting up the shutters so I am not against controlled infection but for the individual it presents us with a minefield of risk to navigate for some time. It was easy when they said stay at home. Not easy when you have to travel to work and there's no way of safely doing so. I think some people will just get on with it now. That's a bit of a danger now for BJ. if the epidemic surges back he will get some criticism. I don't think he managed this particular move that well. The bigger picture though is more important.

I see the Government’s 5 levels of Covid 19 alert is based on a fake mathematical formula!

Wrong as well, should surely be a multiply.

Not really, we're just following what other European country's are starting to do, we just seem to have a population of hotheads who seems to ravel in making the most simplest of instructions difficult
You were weeks behind the countries who have started to relax the rules.
Whilst you are as usual quick to jump in with your defense of the bumbling idiot it's quite clear from all news and breakfast TV this morning there are millions who are confused. Just because you're not doesn't mean everyone else is.

And they’ve now asked everyone at my work to go in tomorrow, even though I can work from home (work in a office).... sure this is the same for millions of others.

Any point in the so called lock down now?
