Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

I've said it before but if the players are scared to play and the powers that be can't guarantee their safety, in writing, then all get together and refuse point blank to play.
If the players agree and want to play , then thats a very different thing.
They should just stand up for themselves or better still, their joke of a union should be advising the premier league to go fcuk themselves, on behalf of their members.

Naaaahhh ... I think they're close to getting it all figured out. Just need a few tweaks here and there

Yeah his mouth and nose need covering ;-)

* don't try this at home with cling film.

This should be shot down in flames straight away, The Leeds manager was dragged over the coals last year for spying on a training session but now they want us to record them and supply them to the FA. Seriously why would they need access to these?
To ensure adherence to specific covid rules in case of liability would be my guess

Here's a paper but it hasn't been peer-reviewed yet.

Couldn't tell you what it all means but it sounds positive!

it means that people who get infected generally raise antibodies to the virus which can be detected by immunoassay. Also that by gathering samples from upper respiratory tract of previously infected people (likely by using mouthwashes or swabs), it’s possible to detect viral components upto 28 days after symptoms have gone.

in a nutshell they’ve got two methods for determining who’s been infected.

then some speculation about whether in conforms immunity....which is a bit of a stretch.

Have the PFA spoke recently?

Security staff at #PremierLeague training grounds are being warned about the prospect of autograph hunters gathering at the gates. Clubs will advise players not to lower their car windows and interact. [

The opening game will be televised on a Friday night by Sky, who would show four matches each weekend, with one on BT and the remaining five likely to be made free-to-air. [

Not interested thanks :) if sky and/or bt start charging me again for football without fans, they'll be getting cancelled.

The #PremierLeague restart is expected to be pushed back by at least seven days from June 12 to June 19, after players and managers expressed concerns that major questions needed to be answered over the risks of a return to full-contact training and games.
@TeleFootball

And just what will change the dynamic in this seven day period? Wizards casting magical protection spells for all those involved?

I got rid of bt and not going back, sky is on pause but I get to watch all my recorded games and some old ones on the footy channels,i can watch games new and old other ways but have resisted moving away from something I can record,it is time I do it

I never understand why people only like sport with fans there. I know football is a bit different to other sports in the intensity of the atmosphere but that’s largely down to the partisan nature of the spectators. Obviously being actually at a game is different and the best matches to be at live are when the place is bouncing but if I’m interested enough in the outcome to watch a match on telly then I don’t really care how many people are in the ground or if the atmosphere is good in fact I get riled by the amount of time modern tv coverage spends lingering on pointless shots of the crowd.

For me sport is all about the contest between the protagonists - watching two individuals or teams who dedicate their lives to excelling in a sport go at it with amazing levels of intensity is where the fun is for me. Everything else is window dressing.

Good for you, each to their own but I'll watch football the way I want to watch it though, and its not without supporters thanks.

If its not safe for me to be in my seat, then they shouldn't be playing it, as its clearly not safe for the players to play either.

The players should be told what to do by the union, Arthur Scargill would have really fucked the FA and PL right off

I've been prepared to sleep with Jessica Alba for God knows how long now but I'm still waiting

That could be City v Arsenal as the PL have already said they want that game on first to level the number of games left to play, it would then be 9 for every club?

I don't want to watch games with out fans but I might just have a peep to see how the social distancing and the other stuff pans out

Players aren't likely to sing (shown to be the most dangerous activity of all because it drags up large quantities of virus particles in droplets from deep in the lungs), and they are unlikely to be socialising before and after the game. There's travel too.

Players are also on the move almost all of the time in the open air which makes transmission of a significant viral load unlikely. Transmission is a function of the time you spend close in the company of an infected person and that's very clearly a much more significant problem for fans than players. On top of that players will be very regularly tested.

Governments across Europe have approved outdoors sports without crowds presumably because they think they have a different risk profile.

Ideally no one does but it will beat watching endless repeats of old games.

Newcastle Utd v Manchester City FA Cup. That will be interesting particularly if their takeover has gone through
