Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Not sure if it’s been posted but saw an article earlier with the stance of every club regarding restarting the season. If true then City are the least arsed of all about resuming and Spurs are the most desperate. Nothing to do with that not insignificant stadium debt eh Mr Levy? ;)
The Spuds are up that well known creek without a paddle or canoe in terms of their financial status due to the debt secured against that stadium so they're desperate to finish this season.

The longer this virus is here the longer the rats have to wait and the longer is goes on the more funnier their first title in 30 years becomes.
Whatever happens it won't be the same feeling as winning it in a completed season..
And to you lurking Scouse ****s we're still champions.

The Aguero moment likes this post.

The chief medical officer in the briefing now doesn’t sound at all confident that football will be starting any time soon

totally non-committal ‘We are monitoring the situation’ someone will need to make a statement and commit to a starting date very soon.

From the chief medical officer in the daily briefing

When can competitive football start? Small carefully measured steps, safe return to training ,have to see how that goes before thinking about playing games

Sorry to disagree with you bud on old Comrade Crow. My dad was a shop steward for years prior to retirement for the RMT and maintains that Crow was nothing more than a drunken bully with an over inflated opinion of himself. Crow did nothing more than grandstand and play up for his own public appearance as well as spending huge amounts of members contributions to the RMT on expensive long lunches at very expensive central London restaurants because he could. I mean no disrespect to you or your opinion but he really was the embodiment of the term 'champagne socialist'.
You clearly speak from experience. He did seem able to get his members to be unified though. The RMT was (and still is to some degree) a closed shop, which for all the criticisms of such organisations, has been pretty successful in defending its members' rights, especially against a torrent of ant-union governments for decades. Anyway, chapeau to your dad anyway for being a shop steward.

England's deputy chief medical officer, Jonathan Van-Tam, said: "There will be small, carefully measured, step-wise approaches to see what can be achieved safely. The first of those is to return safely to training, still observing social distancing."We will have to see how that goes before we can even think about moving on to the return of competitive football matches

Bit different tone to the cultural Secretary

The government is "opening the door" for the return of professional football in England in June, the culture secretary has said.

Oliver Dowden said Thursday's meeting with the Football Association, Premier League and English Football League was "positive" and "progressed plans" for the sport to resume

if that’s the case that will be seen as the end of social distancing for many regardless of what the government say.

I think so too, there are millions of football fans that will probably say that if it ok to resume a contact sport why are we standing 2 metres away from everyone

Not just football fans , everyone is going to think ..what the fuck ?
Muen did a piece the other day , an Ariel shot of a load of blokes playing football on a field somewhere in Ardwick , outraged & disgusted they were ...meanwhile 22 have been given permission to do exactly the same in a few weeks just down the road .

Hmmmmm. I’m not sure there’s that much difference in what they’re both saying. The Culture secretary just sounds like he’s being more conciliatory - maybe because he’s been meeting directly with the football authorities and is just trying to come across as diplomatic, whereas the CMO is further removed from all that so can tell it like it really is, no fucks given.

its a no win for everybody but liverpool ??

teams will start to say well you can not relegate us because it not the same and the break and no fans and fitness played it part. same for promotion from the championship how can you say play 10 games behind closed doors after 3 months off and get the proper results

look yes to playing some sort of football in june behind close doors for tv fans around the world ? but as for finishing the premier league or cups and european cups then no. how can you get everybody to be happy at the results ?? its so so different in so many ways and stopping the season 3 months ago must spell the end of the old season

play a tournament and even have a cup final and just for the fun of the sport and love of football ? because there is so much hurt going on in the world and people are still catching the virus and losing their lives and nobody wants to feel anymore pain and the pain of losing is wrong

so football if we do have a right to play again in june should just be for fun and lets take away the hurt of losing and being relegate and losing a top 4 place or top 6 place in the premier league ?? let all 20 teams in the premier league play a cup tournament 4 groups of 5 teams and the top teams play a semi final and final at wembley and all the money that is made by tv and sponsorship goes to the NHS and charities around the world
