Totally agree on the cycle paths. Cyclists have little choice currently but to cycle on main roads, be those 30, 60mph roads. The number of cycle paths in the UK is derisory and those that we do have are littered with detritus. We, the UK, are a nation of car drivers, we love to be able to drive from our homes to wherever, be that local or distant, hence the paucity of decent bus/tram/rail/cycle networks. The Dutch, Germans, Scandinavians are the model we should be looking to - but it ain't happening soon.

And until that happens cyclists should be nowhere near a road designed for motor vehicles.

If a cyclist is to be on the road the following should happen:

Insurance
Helmets and hi Vis mandatory
Bells/horns mandatory
Lighted indication
A test to pass

If they want to be in the same space as a motorised vehicle then they should be subjected to the same rules and regulations.

With a passion, I cannot stand cyclists.

I'll acknowledge that there is limited space and facilities so riding on a road is the only option.

My argument is that option should be removed until such time as something like fucking cycle paths are installed nationally

No need. We can have one online. I think cycling is a fantastic mode of transport: cheap, healthy and reduces traffic. There are some cyclists that don't/won't obey the highway code but, compared to car drivers they are few and far between. That's it, in a nutshell..

And in a nutshell that is bollox.

If you want to stay healthy then go to the gym. Run a marathon. Buy an indoor bike. Start walking.

Roads were made for motorised vehicles, not bikes.

The lack of infrastructure has meant they are shoe horned into an environment that is dangerous.

It makes me so fucking angry that I have to pass a test, and pay ridiculous insurance to be on a road whilst fucking cyclists don't do a thing other than have the brass neck to pipe up when someone calls them out.

When they pay what I do and are subjected to the same things I am on the road, then they can come and have a go.

Until then they can fuck right off.

Rant over

Edit: My apologies for derailing the thread.

Just post something similar. Why would anyone want to use children as guinea pigs. which is what I think will happen.

Dog walkers are the most selfish of the bunch though, they really do take up the whole pavement and expect YOU to move out of the way for their fucking dog.

As someone with a bike and a dog I can safely say my week has been ruined catching up on this thread! My dog is too old to walk though so hopefully I qualify for an exemption on that one. Have to admit I went round the Edge yesterday and the amount of shit and also shit in bags left lying around was disgusting.

#metoo

dog, cyclist, jogger, diesel car, also think it would be good to try and get kids back to school safely = ****.

however I do agree with you. Around where I live lockdown seems to have resulted in an amnesty on picking up your dogs shit. I nearly stood in one yesterday and it looked like Digby had done it (one for children of the 70s)

They’re up there, especially those who walk small dogs on long retractable leashes; dog acts like a minesweeper and forces you off the pavement. There’s also girls walking in the middle of the pavement glued to their telephones, and couples walking hand-in-hand who refuse to let go and force everyone on to the road.

Roads are psychologically safer than pavements. :-(

Anyone know where we're up to with quarantine on flights? Michael O'Leary was on the radio and seemed to think that lorry drivers and key workers were exempt, and travellers from France. That exemption was after a private conversation (in French) between Johnson and Macron but I thought they'd backtracked (business travellers would fly to Paris then come to London on Eurostar - nearly as quick as getting through Heathrow into London).

14 day quarantine is "Unimplementable, unenforceable, unpoliceable" says O'Leary and reckons wearing a mask would stop 98% of transmission. That's a separate issue but what exactly is the latest on the quarantine proposal for flights?

Just heard on local Spanish Radio that about 5 percent of its population had antibodies against CV.
El Pais has the full story here:

https://english.elpais.com/society/...paniards-have-contracted-the-coronavirus.html

Some interesting statistics regarding age, geographical and Province differences.

Article has an interesting comment as follows:

"If the percentage of infected people who eventually die is around 1.1%, as the study suggests, the cost in human lives of herd immunity would be between 200,000 and 300,000, making the method unacceptable. Epidemiologists consulted by this newspaper said that social distancing measures must remain in place until a vaccine becomes available."
