COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Isn't this so bloody obvious.

And yet for weeks and weeks we had that moron Witty and his band of cretins, advising government ministers without a science o-level between them, that there was no need to wear them and no benefit in doing so. So that was the moronically stupid and wrong advice being pedalled.

And yet all the time we could see how effective mask-wearing was in Asian countries. An effective solution was right there in front of us.

The government's persistently wrong advice on something as important as this ha been a bloody bloody disgrace.
Morons and cretins, really? They didn't want people taking them away from the front line and care homes which was right, wearing masks has behaviour consequences

I've noticed a big difference in availablity between the different supermarkets when shopping for my Mum near Stockport vs me in North Bristol. We've had almost no luck getting Morrisons deliveries, but have been able to get Tesco's ones if we keep trying.

And we can get Morrisons stuff next day via Amazon, Mum cannot - they don't deliver to her area.

But your point about food boxes is a great one. Our local butchers do them and have been great
We've had bread boxes from the local bakery, a box of free fish from Morrisons and the local fruit and veg supplier too. I've actually been to the supermarket just once since 9th March yet have eaten very well indeed. It's cost a lot more than normal but luckily we can afford it. Others might be less fortunate.
Milkman have made a comeback which is great for the elderley, they are doing bread and other things as well so at least the basics are definitely in

Best of luck reopening mate - what area of Scotland? That must have been tough for her and you both. Thanks god that has been relaxed a little

We 'breached' on Tuesday and had a visit from my daughter and grandaughters in the back garden social distancing. So hard not having a cuddle from them. My daughter is a community nurse so phase 1 means she is back to home visits.

The only bit I don't like is you are expected to carry out exercise and the outdoor sport (fishing) within your own area which is defined as 5 miles. I will need to travel a bit further than that to my favourite fishery down near Coldingham. Hmmm.
We are in the Borders, so done some great walks during lockdown, don’t really need to travel for exercise etc, but will be driving to wherever we meet up with our daughter next weekend. Think on the whole Scotland has been pretty good during lockdown, Portobello yesterday the exception, I think a bit of rule bending over travel distances is okay doubt Coldingham will be too crowded.

To bloody true.
And yet Whitty, Vallance and the rest of the Quatermas team are STILL peddling the line that it doesnt effect transnission much. I call that out as complete bollox. The science is now clear and the figures are fucking stark.
Immediate near universal (80%+) adoption of moderately (50%) effective masks could prevent on the order of 17–45% of projected deaths over two months of an epidemic.

Why not simply tell the truth and they didn't want the UK public grabbing all the surgical marks that were available because the NHS needed them? Most would have taken that message to heart.
They were following the WHO advice on wearing masks

Got my City face coverings sorted for my football mad daughter and myself. Hopefully they turn out as good as they look on the website. If we will be wearing them for the foreseeable future I like having a City one.

187 England hospital deaths. 44 yesterday First time over 40 reported on the day in 6 days. Slight rise Nothing drastic as daily fluctuations are bound to occur. But not out of the woods yet. Is still down from 47 seven days ago.

Thank you. That makes it easier to see where we are headed. Looks as if it will be hard to get anywhere close to zero deaths given how the slope is evening out.

See England's deadliest day - April 8 - also rose to 891 now too.

150 hospital deaths per day is the new baseline.

After the peak, it took us 4 days to get out of the 700s, 5 to get out of the 600s, 3 to get out of the 500s, 4 to get out of the 400s, 7 to get out of the 300s, 7 for the 200s, and we've now been stuck in the 100s for 11 days. The fall has clearly plateaued hasn't it. Can't quite get it down to two digits. Wonder if we'll get there at all given the change in restrictions.

Yes, was real. It’s a small coffee shop with the emphasis on coffee. Being able to open next week for takeaways will be a huge boost. We only do rolls and toasties, soup, cakes. So phase 3 for sitting in but with distancing will only be able to have a few tables. Takeaways will be good for us though.
My daughter is real too :) been tough for her she started work at the Western Edinburgh end of last year and been living in a flat on her own she moved into in the new year but not been able to see us. Looking forward to meeting up with her next weekend somewhere.
I don't think Cramond will be crowded. They might even have cafes doing takeaways.

The virus spreads exponentially, and it also declines exponentially.

It's going to take ages to drop below 100, much longer to drop below 50, and it's unlikely IMO that we ever get below that.

Not to bring back the stupid old flu comparisons...but PHE says the average flu deaths per year is 17,000 - about 50/day.

You could eradicate all deaths to day temporarily in a severe lock down, but the virus isn't going to go away so if you want some semblance of normal life, it's never going to get below the death rate of flu until/unless we get a vaccine.

It's the one bit of WHO advice I find odd. Pity we didn't follow WHO advice on testing.

National laboratories
Countries should prepare laboratory capacity to manage large-scale testing for COVID-19 — either domestically, or through arrangements with international reference laboratories. If COVID-19 testing capacity does not exist at national level, samples should be sent to a regional or international reference laboratory with appropriate capacity. In the event of widespread community transmission, surge plans should be activated to manage the increased volume of samples from suspected cases. WHO can provide support to access relevant reference laboratories, protocols, reagents, and supplies

i think the low figures as you say are going to be with us for a long time, a spike here and there depending on things like the beaches and social distancing etc, Dr Campbells video was good news yesterday which indicates the virus will just snuff out eventually
