You can if you’re thick as well (not you personally). Do you remember some of the interviews on TV at the time?

I do but i also saw interviews on the TV where the EU was given credit for inventing the NHS, it works all ways.

We are diverse nation and not all brain surgeons to coin a phrase, myself included but it doesn't stop people having an opinion or casting their vote and i wouldn't want that, ever.

I and anyone else on here can only speak for themselves though and i know i am no racist or trumpette or gammon etc.

My own personal experience of talking to leavers is that eventually immigration enters the conversation but do I think that everyone who voted leave is a racist ?..... No

But I think that you're ignoring the fact that the Government and its leaders (including Farage) are racist... and campaigned and continue to campaign , subliminally and openly on an anti-immigrant, anti-asylum seeker platform and they continue to use dog whistle politics to appeal to peoples prejudices and exploit their ignorance.

Do I think that leavers were manipulated and lied to ? ....Yes. Is racism at the root of the Brexit vote... possibly but it's probably xenophobia more than racism.

In any event .. since the vote the racists have been ennobled.

I think there are surveys that suggest people are more relaxed about immigration and immigrants since the referendum. That perhaps suggests that most people are more relaxed whereas racists are emboldened.

In the exact same way the SNP are not racists for disagreeing with Westminster rule and interference, brexit voters are not racist for disagreeing with the EU/Brussels rule and interference.

Anyone claiming other, especially when they have posts on here defending the SNP stance should take a look at what it is they are trying to claim.

We are back at day one of the ref campaign and some bright spark on the remian side says excitedly...."lets use racism as a tool here to shame people into voting our way, it will definitely work" and still to this day, some of you think its a winner?

It was a part of my reasoning to vote to leave as well as i favour and always have favoured a points style immigration policy open to anyone regardless of where they come from and based on skills gaps that need to be filled.

It also stops the brain drain from poorer EU countries who need to grow themselves instead of seeing its population, up sticks to move to the UK/France/Germany etc.

Well obviously it's bollocks. The first paragraph favours a UK policy that explicitly wants to attract more people from the very countries in the second paragraph. It's already happening.

As I pointed out recently.

It would if they understood this narrative that Brexit would keep out white people and (more fairly) mean more black and Asian immigration.

There is another aspect to this non-discriminatory policy - a skills drain from developing countries for which it's more of a problem for (e.g.) their health services than it would be for EU nations. (As for the dastardly Commonwealth countries offering much better pay and conditions to British doctors and nurses ….)

On a wider note, and skills shortages, can anyone explain why Balfour Beatty has Fijians working on railway building and track maintenance?

I'd have thought the concept was surprisingly simple to grasp.

Being in possession of an EU passport should not make someone more eligible to migrate to the UK over a non-EU migrant. Both EU and non-EU migrants should be subject to the same scrutiny and that being an EU member gives you no advantages over non-EU citizens.
