George Floyd murder | Clashes between US police and protestors

Can someone explain this to me as I am struggling. Ndjodi Ndeunyema appears to be one of the organisers involved in the removal of the Rhodes statue in Oxford appearing on TV and giving press statements. About the protest earlier this week he said 'We are here to shame the college that seeks to venerate and glorify someone who is not worthy of glorification or veneration'. He is clearly a very bright person having completed three Oxford masters degrees. However he is studying at Oxford as a Rhodes scholar, that is to say he is happy to take money from the trust to enable him to be at Oxford. So it's ok to take the money from a trust set up by the very person you hate.
Scholarship washing

No one is deleting history or said delete history as has been said the statues that may be removed loke rhodes or peel will go into museums where nore context can be added than a placque with a fes word summary.

The colston statue, I am not from Bristol but reading up since have learnt alot about him and his history and aslo the frustrations of h
It being there.

If someone said get rid of wellington, albert or vicky etc in town I would be opposed for different reasons, peel not arsed tbf and if cromwell was brought back from wythenshawe I would graffiti it myself as he was a ****.

We have a museum, a peoples history museum, a war museum, and many more so no statue removed need be lost to history.
Clearly Nelson's Column needs to come down

But people are now talking a lot more about how we can revise the way we remember and memorialise these slavers. All it took was one shitty statue to be taken down.

Some people on here seem to have a weird emotional attachment to these statues of slavers.
Yes, granted there is an immediate effect in that sense, but what about actual change? It seems a lot of the white folks turned on the statues when it became clear their protest had no goal beyond the expression of outrage at what happened in the US last week. They now need to excuse general anti-establishment violence here in the UK and statues are the only tangible things they can lay their hands on. I imagine they are most disappointed that the police have let them get on with it rather than turn them into 'the oppressed' by clamping down.

Fair enough but if there’s a list of wrongs, thats got to be either at the bottom or not on the list at all.

It needs to be reasonable or people will lose interest in the cause for equality.

My point was that everyday racism at the highest level of society is glossed over or laughed about and normalised and if so what hope is there things will really change.

I chose phil as the example because he is in the news I could have chose many in high staus tbf.

Tony Blair was quite clear. A million lives lost in Iraq was "the right thing to do."
Well those WMDs were trained on Holland Park you know.
I was reminded about the fall of Iraq (and Libya) when the statue was pulled over on Bristol, a bit like the way Saddam Hussein and Gaddaffi's statues were pulled down by an oppressed local populace, although l do not recall middle aged student types jumping up and down with glee on the statues of the dictators.
I am sure those in Bristol were showing their anger in a very indirect way about the modern day slavery that exists through many places one being Libya. Or not.

History will have to begin in 1992 and all statues that aren't dedicated to reality or soap stars removed. Francis Drake, Raleigh, Nelson, Churchill, saves having history lessons when the kids eventually go back

Sorry but that fergie statute is post 92 and needs tearing down and throwing in the ship canal

I just don’t think it’s a good area to target the cause.

He’s made several inappropriate jokes throughout the years which is down to age and he doesn’t reflect society.

Fraught with difficulty this statue business:

https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/jade-goody-set-to-be-commemorated-with-statue-385189

but from Jade Goody Wiki....

Among Goody's remarks were, "I've seen how she goes in and out of people's arseholes" and Shetty "makes [her] skin crawl".[34][35] She also called Shetty "Shilpa Fuckawalla" and "Shilpa Poppadom". Other, unbroadcast incidents of racism were later alleged,[36] including a late-night limerick game between O'Meara, Lloyd, Goody and Tweed in which the word "Paki" was implied but not said.[37] Goody allegedly wondered aloud if Lloyd used "the P-word", and referred to Shetty as "Shilpa Pashwa whoever you fucking are".[36]

The incident triggered an international outcry, receiving extensive coverage in the Indian media (where Gordon Brown, then British Chancellor of the Exchequer, was visiting at the time). Brown condemned the programme for damaging the impression of Britain as a country of tolerance.[38] In a 17 January statement, Channel 4 defended the programme against charges "of overt racism or racial abuse".[39]

Goody was evicted from the Big Brother house on 19 January 2007, receiving 82 per cent of the vote when she was up against Shetty.[40] Channel 4 prevented crowds from gathering outside the house, and cancelled her scheduled press conference.[41] In an interview with Davina McCall shortly afterwards, Goody said she was "disgusted with [her]self" after seeing a video of the alleged bullying.[42] Her much-publicised return to the Big Brother house was called "a terrible decision" by publicist Max Clifford: "It looks like she has ruined a very lucrative career".[43] At this time Goody was a supporter of the anti-bullying charity Act Against Bullying, which dropped her.[44] In an interview with the Daily Star, Goody said that her abuse of Shetty ruined her girl-next-door image.

Although Shetty did not lodge an official complaint about racist behaviour with Big Brother, her allegations compelled police to investigate the possible classification of her treatment as "racial hatred" under Part III of the Public Order Act 1986. In a statement, the Hertfordshire police said that it was

... investigating allegations of racist behaviour in the Big Brother house and will be conducting enquiries, including a review of the tapes. We will continue to liaise with Ofcom and with Endemol, whom we have strongly encouraged to ensure that any form of behaviour that could raise similar concerns, does not occur. We will continue to closely monitor the situation over the next few days. Hertfordshire Constabulary will not tolerate racism in any form and is taking these allegations seriously. The constabulary has experience of investigating and resolving incidents in the Big Brother house in past seasons.[45]
