And it should always be highlighted and challenged if people are not being given jobs because of their colour, gender, age, if they’re the right person for the job.
 
I disagree slightly with this. All teams should have diversity, it’s a critical element to being truly high performing. It is diversity of thought that is needed though rather than diversity of race or gender as such. Things like that can be enablers though due to the different life experiences and feedback from a different perspective that they can bring.

I concur. Read a really interesting book called “The Diversity Bonus” that walked through good mathematical and scientific proof for this when it came to organizational decision-making. It’s less true with teams doing rote task-based jobs and working alone which isn’t surprising. There are equity/inclusion/moral issues too but really compelling evidence of better organizational performance beyond this.

Yep spot on.

In terms of this particular example, I’d argue the cabinet should be as diverse as the electorate they serve. Our cabinet right now though have a much bigger issue with diversity of thought as even if they have it, it’s not listened to anyway and a lot of their best thinkers have been shunted to the back benches.

The thing is, his answer can be an easy one but he’ll never say it because it isn’t politically correct.

Quite frankly it doesn’t matter what the demography of the cabinet, or any other body of people in the country, is. It only matters that the best people for the job are doing the jobs. So if the cabinet happens to be all white males in their 40s or all black females in their 60s, if they are the best people for the jobs then that’s all that matters.

Not that the best people for the jobs are ever in them in govt haha!

But no body of people should have diversity for the sake of diversity.

Of course, if Hancock has said that, he’d probably have to step down. But it doesn’t make it any less true.
It does matter in a multicultural country,let's face it a cabinet of all white ,rich bullingdon boys are not going to get most others problems
 
Football clubs aren’t not hiring black managers out of racism, a lower table PL club is desperate for any survival it can get, it’s a ridiculous suggestion they’d sacrifice relegation for racism.

We need to see data on black players trying to go into management and their success.

There is clearly something amiss though when you compare the percentage of black players to the percentage of black managers. For whatever reason, they don’t seem to be afforded the same opportunities.

Uriah Rennie is the only Black ref I can think of,and I am sure he retired years ago.
Exactly,there is plenty of scope for more match officials,journo and football managers and come to think of it back room staff as well,football does not cover itself in glory neither do the hacks,it does irk me when they pay lip service when they need to get there houses in order ,it is ok to have black and ethnic players as they are the headlines

From my perspective I agree but I’d have to see data, there are some in punditry so maybe they choose that?

A lot of black players in the PL are foreign, French, African etc. so maybe they have left for elsewhere?

It needs looking at but I cannot for the life of me believe a Chairman of, say, Aston Villa or Bournemouth, is that strongly racist they’ll fuck their entire business.

Maybe it’s an entrance into the game of management?

I don’t know mate, I’d love to find out why and help to correct it if it’s an injustice.

I’d love Goater or Sweep to go into management (not the muscle bound tosser on here ;-) )
 
I am an inveterate cotton-bud ear canal cleaner. Have been for the last 35 years. My ears are extremely clean.

As are mine, the doctor actually remarked on the cleanliness of my ear canal when she took my temperature a few months ago. However, if you think her voice is anything but Home Counties, public school and plummy I’m afraid you’re not hearing what I am or most other people

Totally agree that a PL club wouldn’t refuse a top manager purely on their basis of the skin colour. It’s not as overt as that. That would be really fucked up and highly improbable in such a lucrative industry.

I think your comment about entry into management is a far more likely explanation. I think what Raheem said the other day is largely true.
