George Floyd murder | Clashes between US police and protestors

As are mine, the doctor actually remarked on the cleanliness of my ear canal when she took my temperature a few months ago. However, if you think her voice is anything but Home Counties, public school and plummy I’m afraid you’re not hearing what I am or most other people
The small-talk doctors have to make!

You are conflating three elements that are entirely interchangeable.

Totally agree that a PL club wouldn’t refuse a top manager purely on their basis of the skin colour. It’s not as overt as that. That would be really fucked up and highly improbable in such a lucrative industry.

I think your comment about entry into management is a far more likely explanation. I think what Raheem said the other day is largely true.

It must be that, I agree but how do we correct it?

The one think about the BLM protests here is I really don’t know what we need to do and I don’t think they do. That’s not a pop, I just think racism in the UK is far more subtle and possibly only at individual level.

I also don’t think a corporation would turn down a CEO candidate that would increase profits by x amount, based on skin colour.

There is clearly something amiss though when you compare the percentage of black players to the percentage of black managers. For whatever reason, they don’t seem to be afforded the same opportunities.

Probably because the owners are usually white.

Has a black person ever owned a professional football club in the UK out of interest?

I know we have had a lot of middle east and Asian owners, but a black person?

I’d also add to this it isn’t just about ex players, it’s those working their way up the chain as well. Thinking of black coaches and managers that have made it even near the top who weren’t a top level player is even harder to think of, whereas there are plenty of managers in general that had less than stellar playing careers to say the least.

This isn’t just an issue at the top, it permeates right down to grassroots and even youth football. My sons coach is black and I’ve witnessed abuse directed towards him a few times. He has a far better temperament than I could ever imagine to have in the same situation. It doesn’t surprise me though people are put off from wanting to climb the ladder.

Ironically, that temperament, mental strength, self respect and courage required are all things that would benefit them succeeding more at the top level due to the unimaginably hard route they have to take and what they have to deal with.

None of it is for reasons that should ever exist in the first place though.

All I see is pledging and highlighting though? I am a British citizen in my thirties and I knew about the police brutality in America. I’m currently watching Trial by Media on Netflix and it highlights it again on there especially in the case of Amadou Diablo. The flag I agree on is a positive change but worth all the carnage?

What positive effect has George Floyds death had on the UK?

I'm just catching up with this thread but I watched that particular episode last night, Absolutely fucking staggering how those coppers walked away from that courthouse as free as a bird.

Education has to be the starting point. We always deal with the symptoms (like the death of George Floyd, or a lack of diversity in football management) rather than the root causes. Unless people really start to understand the history and the real drivers behind it in the first place (as not all racism is driven from the same initial place) then we have no hope of ever trying to truly fix it. Even then, it will take a few generations to really permeate through, particularly to combat the covert racism and unconscious part that people don’t even know they have. Likewise, it will take that long for those affected by it to feel truly empowered that it no longer exists.

It will not be a light switch, it will take time and the starting point has to be education and honesty. In terms of BLM, they can’t be the ones that fix it really, all they can do is ask. The concern is when those asks represent fall on ears that aren’t truly listening, then all they can really do is shout louder (which is when it can then turn into a dangerous situation).

Surely in 10 years this would be relevant? The black players are still playing after all. But then again I cannot see many top players of all demographics currently playing going into management in the future.

Dwight Yorke hasn’t been offered a job the same reason why as Peter Crouch, they both don’t come across as suitable for management.

I was fuming, first time I ever saw or heard about it. The jury having the cheek to say the prosecution didn’t do enough to convict!

41 times tells you all you need to know!

Why in ten years? Have there not been anyone playing for the last ten? Genuinely can't see your point except on yorke obviously

One that seemingly makes little sense, from what I can tell.
Oh look ric rides in on his horse to the defence!!!
Do you think it is acceptable to attack the police?
Makes a lot of sense as a question and doesn’t really seem that difficult for most people to answer

I would say an easy one thAt I am amazed you can’t or won’t answer
It’s not difficult
Of course it is not ok to attack police, that shouldn't need asking or answering

i have no idea what Abbott has said or not said, maybe as a black women she does not want to publicly get involved,it is for boris and cabinet ministers to lead the country on this one

By the ric never defends me nor do I need him to

I have already said a couple of times in this thread that I don’t think it’s acceptable to attack the police. If you could be arsed checking you would see that.

Your question to Karen literally didn’t make any sense.

So because she is a black woman she doesn’t want to publicly get involved?
She is the local member of parliament for the Area

So it doesn’t make any sense yet a couple of times you have answered it.
