Chelsea (a) post-match thread

D Silva,Kun, Fern all on borrowed time. We are then left with a lightweight bunch with only KDB a world class player. I'd ship out Cancelo, Gundogan, Rodri, Mendy, Mahrez ,Stones . That's a hell of a rebuild .

Agree on most of that

rodri is decent but the rest arent good enough - Pep has to take some responsibility for that as does Txixi

(stones might be worth sticking with and giving another chance)

Our defence is truly shocking considering what has been spent on it!

We have one good centre back And a good goalie
I’d settle for an ok left back and a decent centre half
Would be miles above where we are now
Cancelo mendy otamendi and zinchenko can all leave for me
Not one adds anything to the team
So reliant on midfield it’s scary

For a team that can’t defend we miss too many sitters
Too many players scared to do anything other than give the ball to kdb and let him do it for them
How often does a full back in our team score or assist
Never

Gundogan and Rodri doesn’t work either! We should be shipping Gundogan out if possible and getting either auoar or Thiago in! Kouilbaly at CB, bring tosin back And get a bloody decent LB!!

That game sort of sums up our season

Without Kun we have no real goal threat - sterling tries too hard and runs down blind allies when he feels the pressure -
Gabby as good as his work rate and link up play is just isnt a natural goal scorer - he chooses to pass all the time and doesnt have a killer instinct which is why he will never rise to the level of Aguero.

Our defence is extremely poor - Walker and laporte aside the rest are not good enough. Mendy is just woeful (and ive said it repeatedly he is a huge weak link defensively but people keep making excuses for him). Ottomendi is shocking as well - both should be sold asap

Midfiled is one paced and poor when Gundogan is in there - we get away with it against average teams who dont press us btu as soon as someone puts pressure on the midfield with gundogan in it we are in trouble - he needs to be got rid of. Rodri Im unsure on - has his positives but he is no Ferna in his prime and thats what we need.

Mahrez flatters to deceive time and time again -some good performances but far too many average to poor ones. - losing sane only means we rely someone like him who is hit and miss.

There is a big rebuild ahead (and we may not be able to dot hat if the CAS appeal doesnt go our way and there is no guarantee that it will and even a one year ban will hugely affect us.

Next season with a potential transfer ban will see more of the same with chelsea, utd better and liverpool still as strong - people will hang onto the hope that they cant keep up the pace but people have been saying this for a few seasons and they have only improved.

People will make excuses about VAR, PIGMOL etc -but until you start to control the things that you can control - poor performances and players who are flattering to deceive too regularly -then we will continue to lose ground on Liverpool and maybe even others.

I dont disagree -which is why ive argues that we need to replace Kun asap and that Gabby isnt enough

Would love to see the stats on games lost with gundogan playing am compared to the other games lost. It isnt all down to him obviously but I really struggle to see what he brings that the others dont. Would rather have seen doyle getting game time ahead of him at am. Would Tommy's passing be as good? Probably not, but he would push the game, try a shot, try break the lines. Ilkay is great to see out a game, keeping the ball ticking over but penetrating defenses isnt his thing. 1 in 30 games he does that beautiful lob through ball, but it's a rare event. If david and phil weren't fit enough bernado should have started next to kev with sane/sterling/mahrez. Shame, hate doubting him coz hes a lovely player and guy but no penetration at all.

Lots wrong with this team
Good enough 85% of time
That is below the bar now though
Love to see some youngsters like Doyle in send remaining games

yes id like to see the youngsters but only to see if they really are good enough and witht he league over and most teams nothing to play for and not match fit will we get a genuine view of whether they are good enough or not. ...lots of teams might do the same so again wil we get a true picture of whether they are good enough.

THB, Garcia will get their game time hopefully

Question for anyone that watches the reserves - surely we must have a elft back at the club who we could play instead of Mendy - even if it is a kid surely they must be worth giving a go - anything not to see that useless lump on the pitch

I’m surprised by the level of animosity with the performance, tbh.

Thought we dominated the first half. Mendy brain fart gifts the goal. KDB’s free kick was magnificent. Fast break was absolutely ridiculous and, had Sterling shown some poise....or given the ball to Jesus wide open in his right...the game would have turned in its head. Instead, we miss yet another chance to score and the game turns against us.

Some Keystone Cops defending, but we all know we are not a team for defending, but I thought we played some wonderful football.

It is clearly time to refresh and renew the squad, with both quality coming in and Academy players stepping up, and I hope Pep commits to an extension, but fear he won’t.

PL season will peter out from here, with us only needing a few points to stay in the Top 4, so it should provide an excellent opportunity to rotate the playing XI, keep players fit and fresh for the FA Cup and, later, the CL. No reason we can’t finish on a high, and it would be the height of ragginess to whine about only being the second best team in the PL after winning it twice in the last two seasons.

I’m generally not a glass fall full guy, but with the football I have seen for the last few years, is winning 8 out of 9 domestic trophies during that period, while also playing some of the best football ever seen in England, my glass is far from half empty and, at times, runneth over.

Mendy has now played more games this season than in the previous two seasons COMBINED, so he is essentially a new player here. He needs to up his quality and understanding of the way we play. I have no idea why he didn’t leave the ball when Gundogan waved him off and his lame attempt to tackle with his wrong leg is EXACTLY how he did his knee the last time! WTF?!

Those of you blaming Gundogan are barking mad. He is a very good player and he did very well tonight in a modified midfield to allow us to have a false nine rotation while not losing control of the midfield. Maybe a few of you should take off the dark tinted glasses and realize he has been doing a better job than quite a few others.

I’ll leave it there, because it really doesn’t need too much analysis. We could have EASILY won the game while we were dominating, but didn’t...yet again. Therein lies a primary problem, with a soft center to our defence being the other. I trust these issues will be addressed, esp with our wage bill going down and our transfer kitty full.

The future is BLUE!
