Chelsea (a) post-match thread

39.

That was how many times BT said either:

Liverpool
Anfield

During the active game. Not at half time or before the Match. Within 96mins.

Perhaps they would have been the same if it was City about to win the league...

During a pandemic.

No idea -didnt see the after match interview - what did he say?

I don’t know, and I’m asking cos I didn’t watch the game earlier, which I’m assuming you did. You posted comments on the game and I was interested to see what context the manager would give to the critical comments you’ve made post match, that’s all.

Gundogan's white knight fan boys are even more pathetic than the player himself.

Total shrinking violet who has never been good enough for this team and never will be. He is what needs to be replaced in this side, first and foremost.

So you reckon we should sell this summer?

To be honest 2020’s been a complete write off anyway, I feel like this was always going to be a shit year for us, on the pitch and in the background. With so much floating around about our plays leaving, pep leaving, the owners fudging the numbers, we were never going to hit our heights for a third season on the trot.

+ who knows, we might still win the CL somehow.

Just think of Liverpool as a howler Monkey, the ones with the Smallest testicles scream the loudest to compensate.

Ps I’m very glad I’m banned from posting in the media thread, a casual glance at the daily mail sport page is enough to raise my blood pressure.

Not far off be fair.

We go again next year blue

That game sort of sums up our season

Without Kun we have no real goal threat - sterling tries too hard and runs down blind allies when he feels the pressure -
Gabby as good as his work rate and link up play is just isnt a natural goal scorer - he chooses to pass all the time and doesnt have a killer instinct which is why he will never rise to the level of Aguero.

Our defence is extremely poor - Walker and laporte aside the rest are not good enough. Mendy is just woeful (and ive said it repeatedly he is a huge weak link defensively but people keep making excuses for him). Ottomendi is shocking as well - both should be sold asap

Midfiled is one paced and poor when Gundogan is in there - we get away with it against average teams who dont press us btu as soon as someone puts pressure on the midfield with gundogan in it we are in trouble - he needs to be got rid of. Rodri Im unsure on - has his positives but he is no Ferna in his prime and thats what we need.

Mahrez flatters to deceive time and time again -some good performances but far too many average to poor ones. - losing sane only means we rely someone like him who is hit and miss.

There is a big rebuild ahead (and we may not be able to dot hat if the CAS appeal doesnt go our way and there is no guarantee that it will and even a one year ban will hugely affect us.

Next season with a potential transfer ban will see more of the same with chelsea, utd better and liverpool still as strong - people will hang onto the hope that they cant keep up the pace but people have been saying this for a few seasons and they have only improved.

People will make excuses about VAR, PIGMOL etc -but until you start to control the things that you can control - poor performances and players who are flattering to deceive too regularly -then we will continue to lose ground on Liverpool and maybe even others.
Jesus are things that bad. Admittedly I didn’t see the game tonight and while I agree with some of the points you make I don’t think we need the total revamp you’re calling for.

In order of priority I’d buy a top top class replacement for Sergio, a top class centre half who has to be genuinely quick and a left back. I think that between them Gundog and Rodri, either in tandem or separately according to the game, can do fine inthe DM role. I rate Mahrez, he’s had a pretty good season and now he feels like he belongs here I think he’ll improve again next season.

We are soooooooo fucking slow. I actually laughed when he brought on Otamendi just after Chelsea brought on Abraham and started knocking It over the top for him.

It’s funny, don’t you think, that Pep values his attributes to the team, yet that would mean he is pathetic.

Things that make you go...Hmmm...!

He is a huge drop off from dinho. Good enough for 70% of the league but chocolate fire guard against the good teams. Have you ever seen him turn with the ball? He gets open, receives it from the cb and then passes it straight back to them. He is weak.

It seems we usually don't analyse the performance, we analyse the result.
When the team wins, we praise everyone
When the team loses, we try to find as many scape goats as possible.

Our performance was typical, we controlled the game with 65% possession away from home but we conceded from counter attacks/ individual ( bad luck ) errors.

How many big games have we controlled and lost it in counter attacks ?
How many times have we created big chances tonight ?

How many times did Sterling dribbled past their full backs or created anything ?
Actually our front 3 were useless tonight.

If I am going to blame anyone for the game, I will blame Pep first for :

1- Starting Rodri + Gundogan together even though their record together is clearly bad and not working
2- Not starting Jesus
3- Not using Sane

I don’t think Sane is going too be used very much. His intentions are clear. Can’t see Pep having many problems in not using him

Our midfield is a much bigger problem than our defence. Kompany often said defending in a Pep team is the toughest gig there is. That gig got even tougher this season because Rodri is simply not mobile enough to offer the protection Ferna did.

If we fix the midfield, it'll fix the defence. That's something we should well know by now after our recent history.

You cannot place a glacier/s there and expect to not leak goals. Doesn't happen.

I can’t help you, mate. If you can’t see what he does, then I simply can’t help you.

As another poster said, if we lose, everyone throws their toys out of the prom and the usual suspects get the blame.

Sterling scores the fast break, game changes completely and no one whining.

This season was lost after Kompany departed and the brain trust decided the back line was going to be OK with one - yes one - good player and a bunch of head cases.

Brilliant!

The truth of the matter is our squad only came back for a chance to win the CL. And after Aguero went out they know that’s not going to happen. And it showed today.

Get ready for more of the same. We lose to Newcastle this weekend.

I can see exactly what he does, pass it safely backwards or sideways. Against Poor teams he can be more progressive as the whole game is in Front of him. As soon as we play a team that presses he bottles it.

if I think back to our most impressive performances in tough matches, more often than not he wasn’t playing.

however, I don’t think he was the problem tonight. Him and Rodri does not work.
