CAS judgement: UEFA ban overturned, City exonerated (report out p603)

The big thing that media hung their hopes on re PL sanctions was that we would have been 'exposed' for submitting false accounts.

So despite FFP in PL not existing that far back, and the margin being vastly different to pass, probably meaning that even had we failed at CAS we could still technically pass in the PL, if the verdict included any hint of book fiddling, we'd get done for That in the PL, not whether we did or didn't pass FFP as such.

With CAS accepting our books as valid, i really don't see how the PL can possibly pursue anything further. It would be silly.

They also said they were looking at Academy rule breaches and third part ownership...that was 18 months ago! What the hell are they doing?

Is there anything in the CAS judgement which could open us up to punishment from the PL? Or does the fact that the CAS release say that City "did not disguise equity funding as state contributions" mean we're in the clear?

In the unlikely event PL punishes, can we go to CAS again for appeal ?

You're wrong, but it's really not that big of a deal. I always felt that if we were cleared, there'd be a groundswell of people on here backing their mates up and going "see, he was right, we knew all along". We didn't, Pep didn't, Soriano didn't, Khaldoon didn't. What they did know is that their lawyers felt they'd done more than enough to win it.

Just out of interest, how do you know that? Unless you have direct access to the senior executives or Pep then nobody will know for sure. Of course there will be people further down the chain claiming City didn’t know but they will have been kept out of the loop and unaware of what was happening behind the scenes at a very senior level.

I’ve just read in The Athletic that our hierarchy only heard the verdict one hour before it was announced.

Im astonished by that; I thought that they had been told days ago.

Looking forward to hearing what Pep has to say today, probably nothing groundbreaking but he might have a cheeky grin on show.

btw I DO hope we continue to boo the anthem of the G14. Those fuckers dont know it we're booing them, juve, lfc, utd, bayern, rm. We will boo you then we will fucking beat you on the pitch
I actually hope we stop booing it now. Our fight was with the Judical Chamber and I’d hope that this verdict gives Ceferin a chance of clipping the wings of the old G14 clubs. Given the effort City have put into making sure we are in it, the response on here to being allowed to play in it and the hatred of everyone else whenever we’re playing in, I think the least we can do is to stop booing it. Not looking for an argument, it’s just my view.

I seem to remember from my Gorton days that the saying originates from leaving a curry house without paying. (but i could be wrong!)
The discussion would be "are we doing a runner/are we doing one?", ie a disappearing act.
The signal would then be "Do one!"
This then transformed into a saying (when you want somebody to leave/go/disappear), you would say "do one mate".

Everyone is looking at each other out of the corner of their eyes and HEY PRESTO.......... at least 4 waiters head for the entrance to dust the plants for a while.......

yep of course we can go to CAS if thats the way to go . The Prem wont do a thing though a bit of bluster that will be all.

The FINAL judgement was given to both sides at 8am. A PRELIMNARY statement listing the merits of party arguments was given to both parties some time last week. This could be challenged for inaccuracies.
So we knew last week that the main points of the UEFA case had been blown away if not the exact verdict.
In the way it operates, CAS is more of a tribunal than a court of law.

I did read that, i thought we were all cleared on that, when Fifa cleared us, so commented only on the FFP side of it. Stands to reason if we did nothibg wrong globally, we didn't locally either, for both items.

They also said we were guilty, and deceived Uefa, and would get a 2 season ban. Or a 1 season ban, depending on what day of the week it was.

Exactly what the cartel behind it intended for it to do: cast doubt on the legitimacy/legality of our undertakings and successes, and degrade our reputation (brand, in the wider context).

It was never meant to be a serious investigation, as they know they do not have sufficient standing or evidence to make claims that would withstand scrutiny outside of an “industry regulating itself” regulatory environment. They could try to do what UEFA did — ignore evidence and repeatedly impose sanctions for the same supposed rules violations — but we would most certainly take any such actions straight to court. That itself would likely eventually put the PL’s own FFP (among other regulations) at extreme jeopardy; neither the PL nor UEFA (even Ceferin who does seem to want to reform both the organisation and FFP) want that to happen as it could delegitimise the organisation’s themselves (as even this latest CAS verdict has with UEFA to a lesser degree), leading to all sorts of collateral consequences.

These PL and UEFA investigations were meant to last for a long period of time, provide many opportunities for friendly persons in media to write about them, keep the distrust and vitriol toward City at the relative forefront of the mind of the football community at-large, and do as much damage to reputation as possible in an attempt to bring us “back down to our station”.

Some of the PL “charges” now being referenced by the media in the aftermath of the CAS decision aren’t even actively being pursued anymore by many accounts, but the PL has not come out yet to clarify what is still being reviewed. And there is a reason for that.

It is a farce, by design.

You could be right Lose track of all the accusations.

They were quick to announce they wouldn’t be looking into the dippers wrong doings, I wonder how long it will be before they close the book on this fuck up by Uefa?
