I still find this very amusing - not that they said it but that people fell for it

Ric is using a powerful new algorithm that identifies anyone even remotely sympathetic to the leave argument and it just shuts you out of debate.

I’ll try to remember to put a ;-) after every time I call you a ****. That should work.Tired of serious and its clear that future abuse of fellow posters needs to be hid behind attempted humour.
BMW and Merc aren't coming over the hill - they never were

don't let them sell their vehicles here then.
BMW build mini’s here.
And they will if the UK is the biggest market for them. If most get exported then it’s likely they’ll move production unless we get a half decent deal.and they should keep doing so.

I can see I will need to switch from a Porsche to a Vauxhall. Is there no end to this misery.Components are sourced from 27 countries across the EU. 80% of MINI's produced in the UK are exported. They also have an assembly facility in the Netherlands at Born. Like all car manufacturers as a result of Covid they face a massive drop in demand for new vehicles for an unspecified period and the best way to survive would be to rationalise the range - cull the slowest sellers - and centralise production.
Deal or no deal they face increased paperwork to move stuff in and out of the UK - Kent lorry parks and if its no deal WTO rules and tariffs - if you were BMW where would you make MINI's?

I guess the only hope for UK car manufacturing in a No Deal scenario is if one of the manufacturers decides to try and corner the UK market by locally manufacturing and assembling a range of cars just for domestic sales, which is what Nissan intimated they might do. Can’t see it happening though.Vauxhall/Opel are owned by PSA now not GM. The plant on the Wirral at Ellesmere Port has been under threat since Brexit - the old GM based platforms are being phased out - the new Corsa is a Pug 208 in a shell suit. You can make the same case against Ellesmere Port as you can against MINI at Oxford. The industry was under major threat due to Brexit, No Deal was going to be the death knell for many plants now throw in Covid and the impacts on the number of vehicles likely to be sold and EU based manufacturers would be mad not to decide enough is enough and move production into the EU.
