I agree that we've gone away from the high press but that's just because of Silva, and he's gone, so whether it's Bernardo or Foden replacing him, the press will be much better. That will have a huge impact on the number of dangerous attacks that get through midfield.

It's absurd that we went this long with defenders as slow as Stones and Otamendi, but getting Aké and Koulibaly will make a huge difference.

Even if we don't concede directly from counters, we concede big chances which then boost the belief of the other side and we lose control of the game.

are you suggesting that IF we sign Koulibaly, Garcia wants out but if for eg we signed Ramos he wouldn’t go because his route isn’t blocked for as long?

How you supposed to get rid of a 29 year old signed for a big fee & on massive wages?

and those saying ship off Garcia If it helps us win trophies, lol same one's crying about Foden & Sancho.

There is no point of such hypotheticals when we all know we need a defender. A change in the system or giving protection from midfield would improve our defending but it still won't make it world class. A combination of both will make us impenetrable .So an elite defender is necessary as both Garcia and Stones are not up to speed yet.
Except Koulibaly the few other top names i could think of in elite defending are : VVD , Varane , Alaba, Gimenez. These are proven players on top of their game and all of them unattainable. Alaba looks like an excellent fit but he doesn't favor England. Then makes Koulibaly the only realistic option else you wanna punt on some defenders from Portuguese or French league. The problem there too is the same. They will cost a ton. Not one defender we have linked with us till now is attainable under 50 Mil. Ake may be but again he is not world class or proven in the champions league

name me one other team with 2 world class centre backs ???

we have Laporte whos good enough no matter who’s beside him if he had a good left back and some more protection from midfield.

the defence isn’t as shit as some people think it is, we give away silly goals by losing possession or ederson being switched off / bored ( lots of goals he could of stopped over the years)

signing a “ world class centre back” doesn’t really stop us from conceding we will still conceded the same amount of goals!!

I’ll bet anyone any money we still conceded the same Amount if not more goals in the PL next season if we sign koudabilly

Some real head scratchers on here. I'm pretty sure signing better defenders means we'd have better defenders.

The funny part is that I'd understand the point somewhat if we were talking about us replacing decent centrebacks with slightly better centrebacks.

But we're talking about Stones and Otamendi who are, without dressing it up, fucking shite.

they are shit as a pair as they haven’t got a brain between them but they alongside Laporte or vinny done the job. Just like Garcia would. And if Ake comes in great he would do the job, we don’t need to be wasting £80 pound on someone who doesn’t solve the problems this team faces. When a left back and replacement for gundo/dinho would
