Eric Garcia to Barcelona

I think Pep will return to Barca one day. Not as first team manager but in another capacity. Possibly to head up the academy and create a Cruyff like influence over the sport.

He is Barca through and through. A player a manager but also a fan.

The draw to the club will be huge for Pep. I don't see it as a draw for Garcia in the same way. All players want to play for the club they support but the opportunity has to be right. If Garcia is getting that opportunity under Pep, at City, he doesn't leave unless he is swayed by big money. Garcia will have grown up idolising Pep as much as he did the club so if he can stay and play under him at City why would he leave?
Maybe depends upon how long Pep commits to us, there again that could be said of many of our players.

Contract expires: 30.06.2022

Therefore Barcelona should come up with more than 35m as starting bid.
The valuation system should be applied on everyone, not only us :)

He is the best young Spanish CB
HG for them :)
Has a resale value
Could serve them for the next 15 years
Awareness, positioning, passing are second to none.
Future Barca Captain

That's another £10m!

Seriously though, the UEFA homegrown player rule came into effect in 2006/07.

Since then we have had 3 club trained players.

Michael Johnson.
Micah Richards.
Dedryk Boyata.

That's limited our CL squad to 21 players + kids on the B list pretty much the entire time we've been there. Now we have Foden and Garcia coming through who will be club trained when they turn 21, are genuine first team players and give us a chance to have that bigger, better CL squad.

The club could very seriously say that makes them worth far, far more than identical players at another club.

I’m not sure why Garcia is not signing a new contract but I think he suspects City will bring in 1 or 2 new CBs which could really limit his game time, especially if someone like Koulibaly comes in. Him and Laporte injury-free and Garcia would only get cup games and a few league games.

I hope he stays though because Eric is a very gifted defender. Having someone like him as a 3rd or even 4th choice is a luxury.

We moved his money up considerably after his promotion to senior level and revised his duration at the same time.

Do you know if he is stalling on signing a new contract because Barca tapped him up or is this just Barca posturing to cover for a pretty poor season?

Koulibaly will be 30 if we get him, we play to win every tournament and thus have many games to give him game time and buildup to an eventual regular slot in a world class team. So I think he will be better off staying and developing under Pep, however I do think he will go because the rumours seem very telling.

It would be a d*mn shame if he left. We need more defenders of his calibre and less of Stones/Otamendi. Wouldn’t be surprised to see us going after a third CB next summer after signing Koulibaly and Alé this window, if he decides to leave then.

What Calibre? I am confused, are we talKing about Kompany, Ramos or Maldini? Looks like some of us are getting carried away here.

Garcia is our second best CB behind Laporte. We need more of his calibre and less of that other stuff :)

I don't know about that mate. I mean there's dinho, not his natural position but still better than Garcia, and then there's THB who I think is probably a better fit at CB. I am just saying lets not get carried away, he's ok but the hype can get crazy sometimes.

Whilst I like Garcia as a player who shows potential, I can’t help thinking both Barcelona and the player himself are clutching at straws here. Garcia has been eased into a team where league games have had little riding on them with opposition teams at the lower end of the table. I don’t think anybody has really got at him yet, and he hasn’t experienced his inevitable bad game or dip in form to test him mentally. He’s a way from being a finished article. Whilst I’d be happy for him to stay and continue developing, if he wants to return to Barcelona and Barcelona believe they are getting world class player, then so be it.

I’m not saying he’d be a better player at City, I just think his chances of becoming a top class player are enhanced by staying for at least another 2-3 seasons. Seems silly on Barca’s part. If they know he’ll come running if they click their fingers I’d bide my time. He can run a contract down.

Garcia is better at the moment then both of them. Dinho isn't a natural CB to begin with, but since Garcia has been playing there since he was a kid. TBH is still young and needs time to develop. A big factor why Pep is picking Garcia above all the others is because how good he is with his feel. People may not think this is not a big deal, but when you can move the ball quicker, you start the attack quicker. He can distribute the ball better into midfield and out on the wings. Of course you will need to defend and he isn't perfect, but keeping the ball means less defending overall.

I didn’t realise Pep judged players by how good they feel, I am not sure that should be allowed...:)

"Garcia's first touch and caress, especially on a bald round surface feels heavenly"

-Sources close to the Etihad can confirm.
